New Elise V8 conversion hot off the press !
Discussion
Id sooner have 400bhp from a 4cyl Honda or Audi and 100Kg less weight ! ...LOL ...but I guess who cares about 100Kg of extra weight slung out between a couple of bits of angle iron at the back
the company behind the Lotus Esthi tried to do this properly...and then the company doing it went bankrupt from development costs.......
10/10 for effort...Id like to see the finished conversion running around a track and road for some miles before trusting them with my cash though ....seems a bit like the Zcars jobbies - they look good on a show stand, never to be seen again actualy in running vehicles that customers have paid for

Was this being done by Adrian Blythe some time ago, he took over where Lotus left it I believe. Great project, but from memory the car (VX derivative) looked a little odd when it was on show at the Clarkson car show in London a few years back. Great idea, but I think the increased length should have been matched to a width increase like the RTN/Lotus developed Malaysian racecar project which looked aewsome IMHO..

I've always thought the VAG R32/36 engine with a Rotrex would work well. Lightish (not much more than a 20vT), and with a rotrex upwards of 500bhp. Same mounts as the 20v, except the gearbox, too.
I've often wondered if the VR6 engine would fit too. It's fairly compact (that's the whole idea) although I've a feeling it's pretty heavy - the older versions as used in the Corrado was definitely a lot heavier than the I4. Edited by kambites on Wednesday 17th September 12:22
if they really are able to offer V8 or V6 400-450bhp 950Kg sportscars essentially "new" (although based on a few year old VX200 donor) then one would think that people would be beating down their doors and there would be a fleet of test vehicles out there on road and track doing development work.
So far, this is the 2nd time ive seen this article in 3 years, but Ive not seen any happy customers yet.
Dont get me wrong - from the pics of the VX version, ...errr yes please, I will have one, for £30K I will take a 450bhp one of those with a Jag V8....if they could show me that it was a fully developed product, some road and track time, maybe even some crash testing...you know...basic stuff for a car

Why would you want an Aston engine? the jag v8 is just as good and considerably less
because the Jag needs the blower (+25kg ish) to make the power you can have from the Aston aspirated - so its just a weight saving thingof course getting a crate Aston engine is going to be a lot more expensive than a low miler Jag from a breakers

the VX20 with a V6 engine cane be built for around £20K inc donnor car. Thats not bad and with the vectra 2.8 V6 twin turbo engine, that think would fly.....
I reckon this would be the best option, plus its a stock carryover, you can chip it if you want, tho maybe it is an iron block (or?)mmmm...hot off the press
