We're off to Italy next week in the S1. Storage space is at a premium and I never use the radio. Anyone know if there is a sort of radio-sized 'mini glovebox' available that you can replace the radio with? It would need some kind of door on it of course. Anyone heard of one available? Any links?

Cheers

Probably not too difficult to make a small box yourself, or frame and then slip a box with lock in there, but you will then have security issues as a neat and tidy locked box there may well interest thieves who otherwise were walking by.

If you are wanting a place to lay passports, maps and toll booth money, then sticking a wallet/light bag on the dash with velcro may be the best option.

Bill, I had a 3 door RS sierra Cosworth that had a separate radio and amp. If you upgraded the audio you could buy a little storage box to replace the hole left by the amp. It wasn't very deep, not as deep as the amp, and it didn't have a cover on it. I wouldn't think it worth it for the extra space laugh that it will give you. HTH

Search for "DIN pocket" and you should find something suitable.

Back in the dim and distant past someone was offering a lockable cubby that slotted in the place of the passenger footrest. May be worth a search here and on Seloc?

The MK4 Golf has a DIN size cubby hole. You should be able to pick one up from a scrappie.

Fit one of those, and every time you pull away the contents will end up in your passenger footwell.

What on earth is that little bit of extra space going to be useful for???? Storing CD's?

Thanks all. The suggestion of the word DIN as a search opened up a world of options!

Went with one of these. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Cup-Holder-Double-Din-Po...

Thanks again.
