OK, lets try posting this in the right forum...

The steering in my car has been feeling rather numb recently and it feels decidedly unsettled - sort of floaty - in high speed right hand bends. I'm guessing that I've knocked the geometry out somehow. Is there anywhere near Southampton that's good for getting a geo check (and correction if it's needed) done?

I like Micheldever, but they're 'just' a tyre place, not a lotus specialist.

Do they have the gear to do full geometry measurements as opposed to just tracking?

Plans did mine - they are superb and they let you check that you are satisfied with the geo by driving the top gear track.

Go get the stig!

How much would I expect to pay for a geo at Plans then?

Not sure. I had my ohlins fitted at the time - just one bill and huge smile...

Prices as per there website http://www.plansmotorsport.com/workshop/

I am going for the £134 option or you can go for the corner weighting treatment for £254. I am going with what ever they recommend.

Hopefully get a shake down test afterwards but being a Saturday I bet the track is busy!

Might have to see if they can do that on Saturday. Spoken to a couple of people who have also had the corner weighting done, sounds like the way forward

So does corner weighting actually make an appreciable difference on the road?

Depends on how bad your car was to start. I had the full monty - Ohlins, geo and corner weighting. The previous geo wasnt bad and the ohlins were Lotus valved for the 240R. When pootling no difference when driven with spirit - every difference.

When you get into an Elise you realise that the car is light years ahead of anything else on the road (handling and driver feel). It was like that difference between a normal car and an elise and a normal elise and an Elise with sorted suspension. It is a huge change. The only limit in the bends is my lack of ability. I can not isolate the difference into one change as I had many done at the same time.

To add to the argument I only have Touring suspension, which for the moment I am happy with. Shall I still go for Corner weighting?

I would. If the geo is going to be set by experts you may as well get the job done right.
Be aware - plans can set a very agressive geo (which I have), I love it but it does eat tyres. It is a little "jumpy" in a straight line. Basically the car is incredible in the bends.

Thanks Gooby for the advice, I will have a word with them on Saturday morning. Hope the track is free.

Hmm, define "eat tyres". Twitchy in a straight line is fine, I never drive on straight roads unless I have to anyway. smile

ETA: I assume they're OK for servicing too? My car needs an A-service, I may as well get them done at the same time.
