I thought the walls on T1Rs were a bit stiff as they are designed for all sorts of cars(normally heavier then elises) as opposed to being too soft. I ran my last set at 22/24 on my S1 so I'd say around the same or maybe a ound or two hgher for yours.

Did you go for the wrong tyre? Hmmm well they wouldn't be my choice as the dead feeling you've been describing is often referred to. But they are normally a lot cheaper than the recommended Yoko advans (though not the Kumhos)

they are a good budget tyre for the Elise for road use , thats about it ....not the best for going fast on, but nowhere near the worst, if you are on a budget then a fine compromise

I had Toyo Proxes T1-Rs on my Griff, and the last Elise I drove had Pirelli P6000, which I had on my TVR S3. By no means the worst typre. The Toyos were running at 22/24 because they are designed for a heavier car, so I guess on an Elise it is even worse. The Pirellis on the other hand were the worst tyre ever. On the Elise they caused it to handle like a FWD hatchback and on the TVR it just 4 Wheel Drifted everywhere.

I have them on my S1, they have plenty of grip in the wet and dry, but they don't feel very good. They also overheat quickly and the grip drops off quickly. I do agree that they have flexible sidewalls and seemt o float, but after about 1000 miles they do dramtaically improve.

I run my tyre pressure higher, it makes the secondary ride harsher, but give better feel.

Wrong tyre, no not necessarily, if you are going on track a lot then yes, if not then no. FWIW I won't be going with them again. My fronts are shot from 3 track days, rears went quicker and I have a relatively new pair to match the front, but I will get a new complete set of something else for next year. (probably R888, I will do less miles next year, more on track)

This is all S1 thoughts though.

For an S2 on standard wheels, yes. There are two types of bespoke tyre that don't cost the earth and skimping on tyres for an uncomfortable plastic £25K sportscar seems mad to me.

However all is not lost and you can always book up 50 North Weald days and drive like a loon, they take forever to kill too from what I've heard.

I run my S2 Exige on T1R's at the moment at 24 all round, as one would expect it reduces a bit of understeer that is common on S2's, and I think the car handles that bit better than having the rears a few psi higher than the fronts.

If you overheat them they will shred themselves with ease! (Believe me I know!) If this happens try dropping the pressures a bit to take some pressure off the treadblocks, as the sidewalls will flex a bit more.

Aye, as I said I think I prefer 24 front and back. Noticed a big difference in ride comfort between 21psi and 25 psi all round - the amount you feel the bumps more is ridiculous.

I hated the T1-Rs initially but they do take a while to settle down (about 1k as mentioned above). I initially ran them at 22/24 but ended up with them at 24/26 and I reckon they give a better ride than the Kuhmos. Although you do lose a little of the dartiness of the steering (its realative though and the steering is still superb) I like the T1-Rs as a road tyre. They offer as much grip as you'll ever need wet or dry. I also think they make a half decent wet track day tyre (although they probably aren't as good as a bespoke tyre). All the above relates to my S1 (on Nitrons with 400/475 springs).
I know Kuhmos are flavour of the month but I'd take the Toyos in preference.
