IIRC about a year ago there was some heavy handed moderation and a few regular members vowed nver to come here again

SELOC is still rather lively though

I have to agree, probably the most boring list of topics since i started using it 4 years ago!

If i have to listen too any more ''flat battery'' or ''thinking of buying'' topics i'm gonna delete this forum from my favourites for good.

The item that blew it was the case of the vandalised elise and the 'hunt' for the culprits. Ever since then it's never been the same and probably never will be.

I have had some great, heated discussions on here in the past but these days I dare not post in case the PC brigade get all mob handed and fall out of their prams. They've managed to ruin the country and it looks like our beloved forum too!

I think the whole site went downhill when it got sold out and became a money making commerical business rather than a gathering place for enthusiasts ...the classifieds in particular frown

I was one of the 3 people banned at the time of the elise vandalism incident. I suggested at the time that the forum would die a slow death (which it pretty much has) and vowed that I wouldn't post again and for over a year didn't. I don't visit very often and don't post much nowadays.

It is nothing like as active as it was and mainly I check in to see what some of my friends are up to (quite a few of the Bolocs). Sadly the decreased traffic has meant rather less in the way of activities, burger runs and even the odd activity day.

Agree with above posts, the amount of forums that you cannot post what you think anymore is a joke.

Simon, your technical expertise is sorely missed. I lost count of how much help you have given me over the years.

Anyway, amongst other mods, I should be taking advantage of your chargecooler developments quite soon.

Exactly as i said before, forums on the internet are supposed to allow the freedom that you no longer have in the real world to say what you like!
Also as mentioned about the classifieds, they are a joke and i will no longer be using those either, it's just scam after scam!

Indeed, I was thinking about this only last week - looking at the front page many posts were over a day old.

It's a real shame as it was a lively forum.

I recall (as some of you have mentioned) somethings happening a year ago. Frustratingly (or not, perhaps hehe ) I was away for a couple of weeks at the time so it, what happened, and the fall out totally flew past me which was a shame as I'd liked to have been able to help in anyway I could - both for the moderation team who acted in my absence and for you guys, the users.

Perhaps, as an element to start promoting the forum again - which really would be a welcome thing - we could consider combining the lotus forums? (general lotus/ elise+exige etc?).

What say you chaps? Is this a forum that would like to be saved? I believe it's still a welcome and valuable place for new members and old, it's just a shame it's not as active as it had once been.

This thread has prompted me to to reflect on the fact that I haven't been on the E/E/E/340R forum for over a year now either.

I sincerely could not agree more, having people like Scuffers around makes owning an Elise and self diagnosing issues a pleasure....

I have been reading this forum everyday for the best part of 5 years and have been posting for three.

I admit that its sad to see that since last year it is definitely getting less traffic (and yes I am aware that it does always slow down over the winter months). These days it seems that the only topics started are the ones by newbies asking all the same old stuff.

It's all too easy to point the finger at specific threads and the reactions that they created, and whilst I'm sure the scuffufal last summer didn't help, I don't think its entirely to blame.

2-3 years ago there was a good crew of about 10-15 who were real enthusiasts that kept this place running, It now seems that these people have moved on to other things, thus resulting in a lack of 'back bone' to the forum.

What we do about it, I'm not quite sure.

Rpm.

I still check the place out every day but have to agree that it really is very slow now.
To be honest I quiet enjoy Seloc: there's good and there's not so good but overall it informs me on the Elise far better than here.
Without wishing to turn the thread into a Scuffers 'love-in'tongue out, I miss his input over there and enjoy picking up his gems of wisdom on here:
I was doing a bit of digging around on PRTs on Seloc yesterday and came across a classic Scuffers/King K thread. As well as being amusing (sorry Scuffers!) it was also very informative.

I myself am fairly new to it, 15 months or so, but even I've seen a drop in meaningful Elise/Exige/Europa/340R activity. I'd say there's not much more than a handful of genuinely interesting threads a week, (if that).

I do have mixed views about the common 'Elise versus VX' type re-posts though. Yes people should search to see the subject has already been done to death, but at the same time if they're new to it all, and genuinely after advice, seems a shame to give them a hard time. Could be a case of 'they dont know what they dont know'.

I still do find the odd snippet of useful info, and still would (and do) post any questions up, which I know someone here will know the answer to.

thinking this view forwards, I think a lot of the problem is that over time, most forum members move on car wise, thus drift away from specific forums.

I guess I am a little odd here as I have always had an Elise and probably always will have, thus i have no reason to 'drift away'.

what I do fine somewhat annoying is the drift towards the 'what colour' threads and the 'VX is XXX because YYY' threads.

Is it also because there hasn't been any real new elise/exige models for over four years now?

An S3 elise, I'm sure that would spice up the forum!

Part of the reason I don't frequent here as much as seloc is purely down to format of forum.
1. Can't seem to find an "office stealth" mode, flashing adverts for Lotus deals don't go down too well here.
2. Despite having a "watch" option it doesn't seem to work, seloc's "subscribe" lets me know when there's been a fresh post to a topic via email. I haven't got the time/inclination to keep revisiting PH threads just to see if they've been updated...

(no doubt the answers to both these problems will now be answered and I won't be any the wiser as I won't be checking back frown )
