What's the recommendation for a second set of wheels to run winter tyres on? I've had very good results in the past by using trackday stickies in the summer, and another set of wheels with Pirelli Snowsports on for winter. Obviously we don't get much snow, but the Pirellis have such deep tread that they cut through standing water like it wasn't there. And standing water is the problem with running A048Rs all year round.

I suppose I can just get a second hand set of Elise S2 (Toyota engined) wheels - any guidelines on price? Or are there reasonably priced aftermarket wheels out there for the Exige? Not looking to spend a fortune as they will be used over the winter months, and will have relatively heavy rubber on them...

pick up a 2nd hands set on here, SELOC or ebay for about £600-700 , or get some new Team Dynamics even cheaper than that

Seen the TDs for £600 inc VAT - had the same wheels on the VXT, was happy with them.

Thought second hand would be a cheaper option, but if everyone is asking £600-700 for used Lotus wheels then a new set of TDs makes more sense - the TDs aren't stupidly heavy and besides, ultimate performance will be limited by the tyres.

Cheers - I've had a couple of recommendations for the TDs for winter wheels so that sounds the way to go. Incidentally even the black powder coat doesn't like road salt (found that out last winter) so I wouldn't advise the TDs in thin lacquer / paint, I don't think they'd last long before getting really scabby...

Spooky, I was going to post exactly the same question for my Exige S2.

If you find a good deal somewhere on wheels and tyres, please let us know.

Thanks.

You can pick up a set of y spoke's (orig Exige wheels) for about £600, or buy a set of Team Dynamic Pro race's for about £500. The thing about the TD's I didn't like, is that they tend to get fitted to all types of cars and you can buy them in Halfrauds.....I'm a snob I know.

as mentioned look on all the regional lotus forums and exige.com as well.

I think demon tweeks do quite good wheel/tyre combo's on the TD's. I'd check the offset when you get them though as it's easy to make a mistake and send rover ones instead.
Johnyfox has them on his exige (look under readers rides on exiges.com) and I think they look great.

Yes and TD's are touted as being lightweight but when I weighed them they came out heavier than the OE alloys. I do think they look good though - that must be the chav in me.....

I wouldn't worry too much about the relative weight of the wheels if they're only to be used on road ... and I guess the main advantage of getting new TD's over some 2nd hand exige factory alloys is that they're probably going to be cheaper to source should you bend one.

I prefer the look of the factory alloys but I accept that it's not as if you can see them when once you're in the car.

Already got wheels with A048Rs! The idea is to have a set with winter tyres or 'wets' if you will, for enthusiastic driving during the winter months. With the A048Rs in heavy rain or standing water, driving enthusiastically is dangerous...

I've had great experience with Pirelli Snowsports which happen to be what Lotus now recommend, quite fancy a set of those so I can still enjoy the Exige in very wet conditions without having to drive like a granny...

I usually run on my 111r Exige Y spoke wheels with AO48's for the summer and a set of standard S2 111r Toyota 8 spoke wheels with AD07's for the winter. The AD07's seem to handle better in the wet than Bridgestones. Nothing rearly handles well in ice / snow, although I did drive to holland AO48's ans it started snowing as soon as I got there, very twitchy indeed.
