Changing the throttle body S.1

Has anyone changed the throttle body on a s. 1 VVC? I am looking at the 160 throttle body on Elise parts. Does it make any noticable difference to response or performance? And is it an easy job to change it?

I'm doing mine in the next couple of days when it gets here. It's about a 30 - 40 min job and by all accounts it does imporove the throttle response

Out of interest did you get your from elise parts or one of the ebay ones or another source?

Easy to change, one of the first mods I made on my car, as the original one is plastic and used to stick open!

I bought the slightly larger one from Eliseparts about 4 years ago, no problems.

The one I bought is just the standard 48mm one but it's still alloy. It was only 20 quid including postage from fleabay

Put a 52mm throttle body on mine the other weekend and it was a sintch. The only awkward bit being the fixing bolt on the bottom nearest the engine as a) you can't see it and b) you need a small socket and extension bar to undo it, oh and c) when putting the bolt back in it holds the wiring loom bracket that you have to find blind. But really is very straight forward! The 52mm throttle body is 17% larger in air intake size then the 48mm one so has a better throttle response for smaller inputs. Some bloke with a Rover and a dyno did a like for like test that I found on the internet (MG Rover forum I think) and concluded that 52mm was better than the 48mm by 1BHP and 3-4ft/lb of torques. Conversely the bigger 56mm throttle body was worse than the 52mm so don't be tempted in biggest is best!

That seals it - I've ordered the bigger one off Elise parts.

This might interfere with the wifes plans that I paint the kitchen on Saturday but never mind.....

its worth pointing out that a 160 throttle body is only 48mm you have to get the 'trophy' 160 to get the 52mm one, be carful on ebay!
