Windscreen wiper when turned off is not parking in the proper resting place.

It sometimes stops in the middle of the screen and at others right in my line of sight.

Any ideas?

It's a 51 S2.

I assume that instead of carrying on to the correct 'park' position, it's just stopping dead the instant you switch the wipers off?

There is usually an internal switch in the wiper noter that 'tells' it to carry on after you've switched off on the column stalk until it reaches the 'park' position. This switch has obviously failed in your case.

You're going to have to rebuild or replace the wiper motor.

Do it sooner rather than later; I've seen this problem several times (admittedly on older cars, not on something as new as an Elise), and in some instances the wipers stop in exactly the wrong place and short the motor out, which can burn out a chunk of your wiring loom, if you're unlucky. The fuses should save you, of course, but I wouldn't risk it.

  • Caveat: the above is based on my generic knowledge of wiper motors on a variety of older cars: I've never had an Elise wiper motor to bits, so I could be talking complete bks. **

Ive just fixed the very same problem on my 51 plate S2, without it costing a penny, and without removing the clam.

PM me with a phone number and ill tell you how to sort it

If it moves once you have turned it off (eg on intermitent) but rests in a diffrent place I would think that the nut on the arm is lose and slipping on the spline of the motor. If your wipper is stoping the moment you turn it off when your driving, it sounds like the self park solinoid has gone, Id try the nut on the arm first.
