Great video and a great car..i was just reading an old Evo this morning over breakfast the 60th aniversary of lotus edition and couldnt help but laugh when they said BMW and audi diesel drivers got a shock on route to the twisties when they couldnt keep up with what looked like an old slow car.
Leno has a remarkable collection of cars but it has some notable gaps, not least of which is an Elise. He said that with modern safety standards it would not be possible to build a car as light as the Elan again. Well, they did, and he hasn't got one. I can't believe he doesn't know about it.

Give him a break. He tends to acquire cars that were innovative for their time, mechanically, so he might get, or be given, and Elise in time.
You think the Elise wasn't innovative for it's time? Not having a go at him, just curious at some of the cars he has vs some of the cars that he doesn't. Still, I guess that's what makes it his collection.Edited by Strangely Brown on Wednesday 4th February 22:11
Its funny you should mention this, whilst I was watching the video I also thought that an immaculate S1 would complement his collection well.
I find it refreshing to watch an American who shares the same thinking as 'us' when it comes to cars.
The video of the Elan shows that nothing has changed in what makes a sports car truly special.

Thinking about this some more and I think that the reason he doesn't have a nice S1 in his collection is that he can't. The Elise wasn't federalised until 2004 so he'd only be able to have a relatively recent S2 at best. I'm sure there must be ways to import obscure cars and get them registered and legalised, and I am well aware that California is not the easiest place to do it. Maybe it's just not worth the effort, if it's possible at all.I don't think Leno should be criticised at all. He's a passionate car man through and through, and his love of that little Lotus was clear to see. I love the fact that his garage isn't just full of jewellery and that he obviously really enjoys his collection. The twinkle in his eye when he talked about tweaking that white one to 200+ bhp was all the evidence you need that he's a total car-nut.
Excellent programme, top bloke

Anyway, it's called an opinion, pardon me for having one.Edited by Strangely Brown on Friday 6th February 18:23
