s2 immobiliser problems

Hi Guys,
not been on for ages due to 3 simultaneous additions to the family taking up all my time! i've so far managed to keep hold of my s2 but am starting to lose even more hair with what i think is an immobiliser problem.
car starts fine when cold but after a good ragging, if i try to start it again immediately, it fires on the starter but will not run. left several minutes it will start again. this leads me to think it is heat soak of some sort but i've racked my brains to think what component could be affected by heat.
happy to take it to a specialist but would not trust my local lotus dealer.
any recommendations for electrical work in the somerset/wilts area?

Crank sensor.??
Get yourself on SELOC as there is possibly a greater coverage of people who will reply to threads like these.

Thanks james,
i've got a service manual so i'll go through that.
not sure about the crank sensor as i am on my 4th one. (the mil light kept coming on and diagnostics said it was the crank sensor. gave up replacing it after the 3rd time!) still, at least i have a few spares to try.
