VIN numbers / Chassis numbers

Hi everyone,
I just had a scare whilst doing a HPI check on a prospective purchase. The vendor gave me the VIN number over the email and he put an extra "IS" in front of it (perhaps by accident as he said "the VIN number "is"....") so the HPI came back with a warning. I looked on forums to see that lotus VIN's start SCC, so removed the "IS" and updated and everything is now fine.
On my travels I found this website which was really helpful and explains all VIN numbers on all elises + elise based cars over the years so I thought I'd post it under an easily searchable title for posterity:

So that this thread is more of a help to people (+ to assist me when I pick mine up on Sunday), does anyone know where the VIN numbers can be found on the elise - both s1 & s2 (mine will be an S2 111R).

Appart from the VIN Sticker (under the front service pannel), it's stamped on the chassis, for an S1 in the right rear back legg (take the wheel off and it's in front of you), S2 it's in the front right chassis just ahead of the windscreen.I just had a scare whilst doing a HPI check on a prospective purchase.
