The resistor pack for my heater fan has died. Any ideas where I can get one, or is it a dealer job?

Thats the original one though. I would get the upgrade from the dealers
at about £76. (it sits higher, away from water ingress)

I did mine over Christmas holidays.

Got this very job to look forward to in the summer Russ. Any snags you experienced, or tips you could give me ?

Bend over. Pull pants down. Pay £600.

Or DIY if you have the time, space and know how to remove it all and replace the stuff.

The seloc wiki gives instructions on how to do the job without taking the clam off but mid HID need placing properly because they are pulling on the loom and connectors and the hard suspension set up has caused some play in the ends on the rad. I think I will take the clam off and do the job right.

I understand that only very early S2's can be done with the clam
on as the pack is on the top of the heater blower (fan) and can
be seen from above. My 05 111S however has it sited underneath
the fan.

If you follow all the clam removal advise on the net etc its not
hard. Take your time, arrange enough space to lift it off onto
some cardboard etc, you will need a hand jiggling it off the car.
Its very light but very fragile in its unbolted state.

The hardest thing is getting the blower/heater out, the two water
rubber pipes need unfastening from the heater and plugging off or
bagging up and tiewrapping. It has to be removed from the car
completely. As well as a 3mm drill bit you will need a pair of
riveting pliers.

Again its a two man/wife etc job to wiggle it back on, slipping
some of the spacing shims in is probably the tricky part. Make sure
every fastener is in and hand tight before nipping everything up
finaly.

I have some photos of my own if anyone wants to see.

The resistor pack on cars with A/C is more of a bugger to do.
The A/C will need to be de-gassed and the A/C pipes will probably be siezed.
The heater box is very tight to remove from the car but will come out with a struggle.
You should fit the latest type resistor assembly into the end of the heater box to avoid a repeat of the failure.
You will also probably need to repare the blower wiring as it will be burned/damaged.

Is there any play in the loom?
I am wondering if you can re-locate the 'pack to someware a little more sensible?
What is the operating temp of the resistor pack? can it be enclosed without risk of over heating (starting a fire?)

No reason you shouldn't extend the loom - the connectors are almost certainly rusted to buggery so you'll be modifying it anyway. The resistor pack is tiny so I'd be surprised if there is no-where else you could put it.

I had a bad electrical burning smell in the car whenever I used the blower for a few days before it eventually gave up the ghost. My car has a/c, so after having read the above, even with the best will in the world and infinate patience, is this looking like it's becoming too much for a diy-er.

Just out of interest .. can I get the loom out and simply wire in a new resistor pack? Where does the resistor pack loom go to? Logically there will be a connection to earth and some connection to the fan and the potentiometer fan control....
Anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram?
