how to remove a center console from a elise S2 2007 ish

helping my mate get the center console out of his elise and having trouble releasing the mechanism that holds the reverse cable! do you remove the leather gaiter around the knob, if so how (seems pritty fix'd to me) every thing else comes easy? just how do it?

Leave the gaiter in place, push the plastic sleeve (the one that appears to be in 4 parts from the top)down through the alloy pull up bit, it is tight but it does go through once done the whole console will lift clear with gaiter intact.(assuming you have removed the hand brake handle first).

i released all the bolts etc and sig lighter.

So the gate just stays attached? I need to completely remove it for it to be covered in leather? bit more description is posible, thanks a million

Remove the 2 screws from either side of the gear lever housing.
Remove the screw from inside the cup holder between the seats, remove the cup holder and you will find 2 more screws beneath it.
Remove the hand brake handle (held in with a grub screw underneath)
Now pull the whole assembly up as far as you can and you should be able to get to the underside of the gear lever gaitor.
The gaitor is held in place with a cable tie which you need to cut off, then it should all just lift out.
