Just got sent this email from Bell & Colvill. The presence of my Lola in the house means that I wont be doing it for a while as much a i would like too.

Lotus supercharger kit

The question now for people wanting FI is OEM or Katana?

The feedback I've read suggests this set up from the SC is quicker than a standard Exige S.

Hi Scuffers,

Understand its the smaller supercharger, but some acceleration figures i have seen were slightly quicker in the SC than the S.(Unfortunately can't remember where?)

May be its the fact that you are not losing boost though all the plumbing? or a difference in the pulley size they are using? (ps i'm only talking about the standard 220S).

Hey George,

all is well mate. The little one is nearly one now and so life is very busy. I have been following your typically fastidious work on the exige with great interest and can not wait to see it.

Hope to catch up soon.

more likely weight differences between cars ...low spec 111R is 860Kg I think, whereas an Exige is 930kg ...add on a some options and you can be near 100Kg difference..still, on the road you wouldnt notice it..it would be neglible

Hey bogie, yep it could be the weight difference. I had my 111R on the scales and it was just over 870kg and it is well loaded (touring, twin oil coolers, aricon etc.)

I nicked this table from Phil-CH posted a couple of weeks ago, figures taken from Sportauto, the german mag.

Car HP Weight Magazine 0-62 0-100 0-125 62-100
Exige-S2 (NA) 193hp 916kg SportAuto 08/2004 5.6s 14.5s 27.2s 8.9s
Elise SC 220hp 913kg SportAuto 05/2008 5.0s 12.0s 21.7s 7.0s
Exige-S 243hp 940kg SportAuto 06/2008 5.2s 12.5s 22.7s 7.3s
2-eleven 255hp 776kg SportAuto 05/2008 4.8s 11.3s 21.1s 6.5s

Tried to read the original articles in Sportauto but my high school german is a little rusty.

If you go on these figures then not only is the elise SC faster to 62 but also from 62-100 and from 100 to 125.(Even though it was a 243bhp exige S)
Also if you put this on an early 111R like mine it is going to be 30kg lighter than that SC.

Food for thought. Now i just need to get the other half back to work so I can have some pocket money back.

I think the reasons are not only weight, but especially aero drag and tyres. Remember, the Elise-SC comes standard with sport tyres, the Exige-S-240 with semi-slickes. Another reason is that Exige-S have been found to suffer from heat-soak (the heat of the engine rising to the air-intercooler mounted on top of the engine and thus limiting its performance, especially when standing still like at traffic lights). This could very well limit its standing sprint performance making it perform less favourably. At higher speeds, the larger roof-scoop of the Exige results in much higher wind resistance. A friend of mine with a Cup-255 even nearly had his roof come off due to immense force of the wind at very high speed. With similar power outputs, the lighter car with less wind/tyre drag will see a bit of an advantage - in this case, it's the Elise-SC.

If you want to use the car's performance seriously (i.e. trackdays), I wouldn't buy a supercharger conversion without a charger-cooler. The air-intercooler in the Exige-S isn't a good idea, but probably still more bulletproof than a solution without any intercooler. Than again, if it's just more power you want, upgrading to Elise-SC spec probably isn't all that bad of a deal...

To be honest i wouldnt take much notice of performance figures, theres such a variation from one to another its laughable. A 240 exige has got to be faster than 12.5 to a ton with the bhp/ton it has, theres people on here who have gps timed their 220 exiges and done faster than that!

Just a quick point,

I've owned both and the Elise SC is quicker once you're up and over 60Mph. I'd say the Exige S is a tiny bit quicker off the mark but it's not really a road car is it?

I personally would go down the official route but as they say you pay your money you take your chance

I know that Lotus provide a kit (different injectors & recalibration)for upgrading the Exige S to 240 bhp but would it work on this supercharger?

I have a 05' 111R with NO options and it has the NON FBW throttle, would this kit work.

My car would fly as it has no fancy frills and is as light as they could officially come!!!!

£4k sounds ok very tempting, could I still use it with the stage 2 and pipercross....

Just had a peek at the lotus site and the times they quote.

Elise SC 0-100mph 10.8
Exige S 0-100mph 11.5 (220bhp variant).

Lower weight & lower drag probably account for the difference. I'm sure a low mass 111R with this kit should be a least SC quick. Now i just need some spare cash.
