Hi guys,
I am getting my new front clam fitted today. The clear protection film that was on my car when I bought it 2nd hand is all one big piece of film. You didnt really notice it.

The film that came with the new clam from Lotus is in all little bits and according to the bodywork shop it wont look very good.

Can anyone give me info on this please as I dont want to put it on and ruin the new clam if it looks like crap?? Any ideas as to why its all one big unit of clear film on my old clam and Lotus sent out all bits and pieces of the stuff for the replacement clam.

Thanks - if they find out quick enough I might get my car back tonight! smile

Still clear but the bigger sheets are less noticable and more protective. Can't see much difference myself.....

Apparently the official lotus one does not come right out to the edges near the bottom by quite a bit in comparison to the one that was already on it.

So effectively the Lotus official one sounds like its a load of bks in comparison to the one I Had on my old clam... Im confused now.. I want my car to be back the way ti was. I am claiming against someone for this so dont mind the costs.

Am I missing out on some after market improvement or something with the protective film?

you are finding out the difference between an "off the shelf kit" i.e. the official one and a custom film application

I suspect the original owner just went to a bodyshop and had it filmed up by hand, rather than a kit

the less lines/joins there are the better of course

I had a custom job on my old Elise - Sinclaires did it for me after some accident repairs many years ago, and it was excellent ...I think you could give them a call and find out what they do now - I seem to remember they do their own "kit" which is nearly a full nosecone

then insist that your car is fitted with theirs rather than the other one maybe ?

If it's put on properly you'll barely notice it. Have it done, and if it's that bad you can always have it removed at a later date. Better than stone-chips!
