Bubbling paint on doors
Discussion
Bro-in-law has a 2002 sports tourer and recently he noticed bubbling paint on both doors near to the top. Is this common? His cars paintwork always lookked good until a few weeks ago. He's just wondering if something happened at the garage when it went in for the interior to be dried due to a leaky seal......also the bottom seal of the window where it goes into the door has slightly risen near the wing mirror.
The paint bubbling on the doors is a fairly common affliction especially in older cars - think it is something to do with the grp having moisture in it which leaches; I've the same idiosyncracy, there's not much to be done I don't think, I'm having mine redone as part of a bigger refresh but I'm not sure whether it'll solve it entirely - I'm not too bothered to be honest, just one of those things.
I have bubbles on one of my doors too! They grow and eventually break. IMO this is just badly applied paint, the door surface was probably not fat free. My car is out of warranty, but I contacted Lotus anyway. After all, this is not your normal wear and tear, this is a production error. They told me to start a claim through an official dealer. An expert will come and look at my door, probably to see if it wasn't resprayed etc ...
