I've just noticed a slight oily scum in my expansion tank around the top of my S1. This is classic head gasket failure isn't it....

Not at all. Could be a number of things. I wouldnt suggest paying out to have the HG fixed just incase it's something else. Get a sniffer test done to confirm or not.

Agree with this. Get a compression test done as well for peace of mind. Neither should cost you vert much.
