Hi guys,

For my standard S1 of which I'll do max 2 track days per year and plenty of driving in the rain (live in Belgium LOL), I plan on fitting Toyo T1-R's My question is : do I fit standard 205/50's or should I go for 225/45 ? and if I go for 225's I'm presuming the grip will improve but will the ride suffer, any other +/-

Cheers
Matt

Going wider at the back will improve dry grip, but make it worse in wet weather. The ride will not be a lot different. For best handling I would go wider on front at the same time so the difference front to back stays similar, or stick to 205s.
Either way the difference is not massive (probably will not even notice under normal road conditions).

If you go for the 225 then you need to fit 195/50 on the front (these are the same size as the Yoko Advans LTS for the S1).

I'm fairly sure that the factory original sizes on the 111S and S160 were 185/55 front with 225/45 rear. Maybe a touch more understeer on this combo, but should be ok.

I think youre right! Forgot about that. The 195/225 combo seems to work very well though.

On the road, you will hardly notice the difference to be honest.

I’ll head down to the tyre garage and see what he has to say, thankfully he’s 3 generation tyre fitted and not some spottie 17 year old…. I’m tempted to go 185 / 225 certainly if Lotus fitted these on production cars and a little understeer might suit my driving style (or lack of !)..

Thanks for the input…

Wet road driving would support narrower more flexible tyres that are likely to stay in conctact more with the road I think.
