couple of newbie Elise sc questions
Discussion
hi all , just picked up an Sc Elise today 08 plate, so far so good, Ive never been in one before so not sure what to expect but first thing I noticed is how noisy the exhaust note is, noticable at cruising speed on the motorway today when I brought it back it droans a lot? also is there any upgrades to increase the power from standard ?
thanks in advance Jeff.
thanks in advance Jeff.
Buying a second car - albeit one that will be used 6-7K miles a Year. Looking at Sagaris, Tuscan, Aero 8 and and Elise SC. I really like the idea of one of the Jim Clark Type 25s that are still up for sale but I would love to hear your opinions given the choices I've put up here.
I've owned many classic Lotii and I have a head full of Chapman so please forgive my propensity toward things that are green and yellow. I would, genuinely, however, appreciate your thoughts re the Elise SC. My biggest worries re the Lotus are depreciation and sheer gutteral driving excitemenmt.

The std exhaust was very tame IMO ... you may have a sport exhaust!!
Lucky!!!
I am finding my 2bular too civilized ...
Indeed I think I may have then ! Yesterdays drive back on the motorway was hard work at cruising speed but I dont suppose it will ever see the motorway again in my ownership It does sound nice nailing it through the pegs! I will try it for a while see if I can get away with it? I bought this car as a less full on car weekend use and would have preferd it quiet! I have another car for raw and ready use which is what im trying to get away from!Lucky!!!

I don't know any specifics on the Elise SC, but tuning is no different to any other FI petrol motor.thanks in advance Jeff.
Improving the induction and exhaust of the engine will help, keeping the IAT's low is good and run as much boost as you can tune for with in your fuel limits (superunleaded).
I think you've probably got an Eaton roots blower, this somewhat limits how far you can push it. Eaton's tend to work very well and quite efficently when under low stress, but they are not so keen on high rpms (blower rpms). And upping the boost can very quickly make it very unefficient with silly high IAT's.
If you want to see what's possible I'd have a look Staste side, they are very good at tuning engines over there. They also sell centrifugal blower kits for the Elise which are more efficient and can make a lot more peak power (very different power curve though).
Apart from the blower, the biggest limiting factor is the internals of the engine. Are the forged from the factory? Is so it'll handle more boost, if not things may break when you push it hard.
Lovely car Jeff, look forward to seeing you around. Exhausts are noisy in Loti, enjoy it, if anything, and if its standard, upgrade to a Sports, decat, stick an upgrade induction on to make it louder still. Give the local villages a second gear wake up call early on a Sunday morning.
