When out and about today I managed to ground the front of my elise (turning onto the particularly steep drive at my in laws house)

Damage seems to be that the paint and gel coat on the bottom edge of the front claim (on the splitter) was been ground away

Anyone have any experience of repairing this type of damage?

I can't imagine I am the only person to have grounded the front end of the car but still pissed off that I have managed to damage my pride and joy - only bright point is that I have an excuse for avoiding the in law visits!!!

If its a bolt on splitter thats damaged, either remove, repair and put back on or buy a new one.If its the bottom of the front clam, then buy an aftermarket splitter and bolt on.

If you can't see it when standing, I wouldn't worry. The underside of my front clam looks like a badly ploughed field..

Many of us have this problem, there is a thread on seloc about it.
I am going to get a quote for mine probably at the end of the week.

It is on the bottom of the front clam rather than on a separate splitter

Difficult to see but has damaged more than just the bit that faces the road

Because the fibre glass is exposed I am worried that moisture may get drawn up and into the front clam if it isn't re sealed

Be interested to know how you get on with

I had some on mine but just painted overit with touchup paint. Now fitted a Tigga splitter which is great but is slowly destroying itself on all manner of objects, almost completely gone right at the front where the number plate is, looks a little messy but I don't mind, figure I'll just wait until it dies and then get a new one to bolt on! I haven't seen any evidence of fibreglass damage from water ingress on mine.

Happened to me on our driveway too. I had it repaired for around £200. I now reverse the car in wink

I think every S2 owner has done it

Alvan style front splitters were always popular as they cover up the damage, and you get an "upgrade" as well - about £400 sprayed and fitted from Sinclaires

Cheers guys

Looking at splitters now but as they seem to rob another 15mm or so of clearance it seems a bit counter intuitive

Have been toying with the idea of a bit of a paint job for some time and since I need to get this repaired anyway seems to be a good opportunity

Car is mag blue and thought about having the central air intake outlined in with al a the Aston dbr9 racers

Would having the aftermarket splitter done in White and the lower valance also to come up to the air intake also be a bit ott?

I wouldn't fit a splitter and paint it - it'll just get battered. Better to fit one and be philosophical about it being a sacrificial piece of bodywork IMHO.

I've fitted a tigga and yes it does reduce clearance further - to the point where the work car park ramp scrapes it, but I could clear the ramp pre-splitter. However the piece of mind of clam protection is worth the oddd scrape. Think of the splitter as a ground clearance detection device.

Yes, I've also ground off the bits in front of the front wheels so I can get my car on and off ramps. See profile pic for details.
