Light but strong wheels?
Discussion
I want to buy a second set of wheels to put the summer tyres on (currently A048Rs, will be 888s), and use the current OEM Exige alloys for my winter tyres.
I appear to have knocked the left front wheel slightly out of true (hence the recent thread about wheel wobble) and this will be down to the shocking state of the roads. I weave around like a racer on the warmup lap to avoid potholes but there's only so much you can do, and yes paying £500 a year for road tax pisses me off
As a result, whilst I want lightweight wheels for performance reasons, they *have* to be strong as I don't want to bend them at the first bit of crappy road (which is pretty much 0.5 metres out of the car park).
The Sport Racer-type lightweight Exige wheels look good but are they strong? I really like the 5-spokes off the 240 Cup cars - these look chunkier, are they stronger? And are they still available?
Anyone know what my best bet is, or got recommendations? I don't need 'the ultimate' and don't want to pay a fortune, my talent isn't going to benefit from magnesium wheels etc. but lighter is always better IMO as long as strength isn't compromised...

I've got the lightweight forged alloys(Sportsracer/Exige type)with Bilstein Sports dampers which rides quite hard, had no problems at all even after a good few 'oh s
t the suspension's fallen off' type mahoosive potholes(including one at 60mph *ouch*)
Edit:They're about £1500 plus vat from Lotus so maybe a set of Racing Dynamics instead@£500 odd?

Bandit - expensive... but are you running A048Rs on them? I'm sure the damn stiff sidewalls make the wheels more likely to take big knocks from potholes. That said, if you've had some big 'rip the wheel off' knocks and the wheels are still round, that's good news.
VtecMatt - are the 240R wheels actually available to buy new still? I think they look ace, but presumably they're the same silly money as the Sport Racer forged wheels?

Playing devils avocate for a minute, while I haven't tested weights or strengths of any of those wheels, lotus sport wheels are primarily designed for track use and most tracks I use are smooth, not covered in potholes like the stuff we all drive to work on.
You could have three sets of team dynamics alloys for the price of four 240r alloys, so you could throw four fronts and four rear team dynamics in the bin, before the lotus sport wheels become the best deal and there's little evidence to say which wheel might be tougher.
The 240r wheels look great tho... But then again, nobody mentioned TMRs yet!!

There were quite a few sets of forged wheels on one of the stands at Donny the other week. Didn't know if they represented good value at the time but the set I was considering was a black forged Exige/SR set shod with new R888 and selling for £1400 inc VAT.

They are quite expensive but I love them and still available, I paid 1.1K for mine brand new in the box. Personally I don't like the Team Dynamics but agree with the above great value for money, but I like to be a bit different.

and my 260 Cup seats.

Slowly turning into an Exige

VTECMatt - that's the thing - my car is yellow too and I think they look superb.
I had the Team Dynamics wheels on my VXT (which was also yellow, with black wheels) and I'm not sure what they'd look like on the curvier Exige - anyone got a pic of a yellow S2 with TD wheels??
I take the point about sport wheels being made for track use, but racers ride kerbs and can give the wheels a hell of a pounding...
