Have come down with a serious case of upgradeitis (no relation to swine flu) and was very interested in the momo 88 steering wheel on Elise parts to live out my racing driver fantasies with a suede wheel.

My question is have any of the PH members got one, what is visability of the stack display like through the top. How does it compare to the standard one. If its no good is there another steering wheel that can be recomended (suede only)

Cheers all

I got the sparco suede version from eliseparts for my S2 but it doesn't seem to be listed anymore, it looks very similar to the momo one. I love it, thinks it looks and feels much more 'special' and gives the car more of a hard look I think. If you look through my past posts on my profile in the 300-330 days ago section there are some pics and some info. Note that you need an adaptor for any one of these aftermarket wheels which makes it quite an expensive upgrade, I got the snap-off adaptor which helps my piece of mind when I'm parked in a dodgy area or want to leave it with the top off, and also the Lotus horn push, which is also an optional extra but make the whole thing look 'professional'. Fitted it all myself although I did need to go and by an especially big socket to undo the steering column nut, its a monster. If you've got any more questions just ask.

I got the momo jet wheel a few month back from eliseparts (with the hub and Lotus horn push), similar'ish to the 88, visibility is fine. Wheel feels much much better than what was on the car.

Note - our nearby Lotus dealer, excellent knowledge and ability, trusted and respected etc etc, reported problems fitting it, took them ages and had to use some 'creativity' to get it to fit properly, something to do with the horn button if I remember right.

Loudman, thanks for the feedback, Whats this about the hub then?

I had seen that some had opted for the removable effort but assumed this was a choice and not that a new hub had to be bought anyway? Did you/your garage experience any difiluties in fitting it?

I like to think I am not to cack handed with most things but for something as vital as the steering wheel I would be looking to get a garage to do it also.

Did they say exactly what the problem was, ie Lotus or Momo issue? Car is getting a Larini fitted next thrusday and was hoping to get them to do this at the same time as I perceived it to be a quick job scratchchin

The fixing of the OEM hub onto the steering rack is totally different to that needed for an aftermarket wheel, so you need an adapter, I think that you can get plain ones but I opted to spend a bit more and bought a snap-off one, also needs a spacer. Bought this from eliseparts as well, its all on their website, you also need a 'puller tool', which I think comes with the pack, to pull the OEM wheel off. You also need to rig the horn up if you want to stay road-legal. The only real issue that I encountered was that I forgot that the horn contacts were live when I was playing with them, got quite a shock! I read a bit on some forums about fitting and some of it sounded a bit scary, but personally I had no problems at all on my own.

If you click onto the wheel on the website you'll notice it mentions that you need an adapter kit, the options (standard, about £25 or snap-off about £120) at the bottom. The lotus horn push is also there at about £31.

No they didnt say exactly - something to do with the fitting of the horn into the wheel, needed some creativity - they quoted me 30 mins but ended up taking them around 2 hours (they didnt charge for the difference).

This was with the wheel, adaptor, and horn push, all purchased from that site at the same time.

I have heard others fitted it no problem, so not sure if it was a one off, really not sure, all I do know is they're a first class bunch of mechanics and I trust everything they say 100%.

Cheers guys! Looks like its a hub for me then, I can see that on Elise parts now. I must have been blind/trying to keep the price down. Gotta say I love this forum, always helpful!

Thanks again
