Am I missing something with the Elise SC Type 25? Are dealers finding them hard to shift?

There seems to be quite a few for sale in the classifieds.

Personally, I love it, and I'm quite tempted, but something's bothering me, but I'm not sure what it is.

Am I alone in liking the styling?
Are potential buyers put off by the constant stream of 'special' edition Elises?
Is it too expensive in the current climate?
Is it the slightly incoherent blend of creature comforts and track focus (AO48s)?
Is it the wooden gear knob???

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

I think it looks great. If I was after an Elise and coud afford it this would be the one. the A048 makes some sense as the car will probably only be driven on dry days, its certainly not a car most will be using every day.

Persoanlly I think they are spot on, its just nothing is seling fast at he moment

I love. In fact I almost bought one. The missus thought I was mad with it's "look at me" colours. So I gave in and got a black SC. My wife has to drive the Lotus too and she thought the 25 would attract too much attention. You can see who wears the trousers :-)

Back to the point. There are quite a few knocking about in the dealer network so £32k is probably about what you should ecpect to pay if you are a serious buyer. It's a big chunk of list price! There have been so may Lotus special editions in the past so they mean less these days. Also the SC is a more expensive car (but worth it).

Buy it and drive to Le Mans :-)

you could have the wife over by turning your black SC into a JPS version. Gold wheels and pin stipes with gold racing numbers should do the trick!!

(with black Europa resisting the temptation to turn it into a copy of the original JPS Europa.

I think they look great and if I could afford one I'd be down the nearest showroom with my cheque book.

I'd still have to keep the S1 though!

Nope, don't like the Type 25 colour combo at all. I could live with the exterior and interior colours separately.......but not mixed like that!! However, do love the wheels and they would look good on a black elise don't you think?

Ha ha. I thought of that too. I liked the JPS 2-11 that was at the autosport show (also at Bell & Colville). Not a problem getting the car wrapped. Not sure if I want the gold wheels though. Black could be cool. You've got me thinking again. Maybe do it for LeMans :-)

I love the Honda engined cars, we had one at work and it was scary fast. However on the road its not all about speed. With the type 25 you really could pretent to be Jim C. A great car for summer drivers which looks good and is bloody fast at the same time. To take the type 25 over to the ring for a blast would be great fun.
Either way you end up with a great car. And both would be much quicker than a Cayman. Even in standard form my Europa was much quicker than the german car.

cheers

There are some good deals out there at the mo, if you know how to go about it that is! I just brought one and did the deal over e-mail before speaking to the rep, you can't beat having it in writing as you deal! I drove the Holyoaks white SC in Preston a few weeks ago and they had/have a Type 25 no:008 I think, and when I saw that, I changed my mind about the white one, I still made an offer on it on the off chance they would except but nothing but a full tank for full asking price. The Type 25 SC close up is just stunning, I couldn't take my eyes of it and inside is even better, IMO of course.

I wouldn't worry what other people think of the colour scheme if it is the one you like. Personally I love the type 25 colours and would loved to have had the option to get mine spec'd that way when I bought it - but I was buying second hand and there were none around at the time.

So, did you buy their T25? And what did you think of their white car (10K miles in 8 months and presumably been ragged a lot)?

No, I brought a Type 25 SC from Castle TVR.
I thought the white SC in Preston was a bargain, I say ‘was’ because I think it has now sold to a chap who was asking me about it. Apart from wind noise at the driver’s door it was well sorted. I didn’t buy because the sales rep would not drop a penny in price and I won’t buy anything without something off the asking price even if it has already been reduced.

Anyway, with respect to Trimbo let’s not hijack his thread with another subject.

The Type 25 SC should be viewed close up and if you’re in the market, make sure you have your cheque book with you when you view it!

Photo’s simply don’t do it any justice but then that’s the same of any car I guess.

IMO, and I could be wrong, I think some dealers are hanging on to the Type 25 and the asking price of £34900 because they think the longer they hold them the more exclusive they become and so full asking will be met. Not so with the Type 25 SC I brought, although I’m not prepared to disclose what I paid.

If you don’t ask, you don’t get, if you don’t get, move on to the next, there are always others available even with this limited amount.

All of this is just IMO and some will disagree and some will hate it and some will hate it without even seeing one close up and some will buy one on the spot.

I can’t wait to pick mine up, if I could, I’d take it to bed with me, am I going too far? I am aren’t I?

So it was you, you b#$%^!

I went to see the car at Castles last Tuesday and then had to go ooop North to a conference for two days. I phoned Castles on Thursday to do a deal and it had been sold - to you!!

They wouldn't budge from the sticker price when I was there Tuesday so you must be better looking than me.

Seriously, well done chap, hope to join you soon, but with a little less change in my pocket than you must have by now

Sorry about that young sir!

Better looking? don't know about that, although I'll better looking than I am now (ugly as f--k) when I'm in it, LOL!

As I've commented before somewhere else on this here Pistonheads forum, I wouldn't tell you how to do deals, as you might be very good at it, please don't get me wrong but I have always (since the invention of the 't'internet 'n' e-mail) done the negotiating over e-mail, both parties know where they stand and you can't beat having it in writing, what you are being offered and at what price, everytime 'send' is pressed, the ball is in their court, they will or they won't! no talking about bullsh-t and plying you with coffee at their posh desk and all the pressurizing tactics, you know, I'll go and ask my boss, then his boss will go and ask the owner, all that act.

Best of luck, let me know what plate number you get.

Regards.

Sorry about this Trimbo.
