Evening

I'm planning on going camping with the gf in the Elise in a few weeks, so...

Can anyone recommend a 2 person tent that packs up very small?
and some sleeping bags that pack up very small?

Actually, any recomendations of any camping stuff that packs away small would be appreciated!

Cheers all

Tesco are selling some cheapish camping stuff at the mo. tent and sleeping bags will easily fit into the boot, maybe even behind the seats leaving the boot free.

most tests are quite small when packed away anyway. its the sleeping bags that can be huge.

sleeping bags can be rolled up and can be put in the passenger footwell.

Well, mine can as the wife is only 5'4 tall smile

Hmmm, not sure how hardy your gf is but in my experience its worthwhile having good quality stuff to avoid cold. I've got a Vaude tent, which isn't particularly small but is good and dead easy to use and will fit in its bag behind the seats in an S2. Most modern down bags will come with a 'compression sack', where they have straps which can be done up tight to compress your bag for travelling - my Ajungilac (sp?) gets down to about 12-14cm dia, which is small enough. Now that we're getting old (mid 30's) we always take a full inflatable double mattress, which is bulky and needs pumping up but it increases the quality of your nights sleep approx 200%.

Our kit was all bought to do camping trips on bikes so size and weight were really important. Like many things, you pay more to have good kit that is small.

Our tents (we have a 3 man for when there was just 2 of us, and have a 4 man now) are by Hilleberg. Their whole range is small and light and really nice quality. We found that an additional groundsheet was worth it and we like tents with a part out of the sleeping compartment to sit.

Your choice of sleeping bags depend on the temperature. Our summer ones pack to almost nothing. For a more normal bag if size is your biggest consideration go for a goose down one. You can get bags that compress sleeping bags

How disappointing, 5 posts and not a single, "You'd be comfier in a tent" reply, pfftt...

If you've got one near you, pop in to a Decathlon store, you'd be amazed at how small some of the sleeping bags can be rolled - even for decent ones that'll keep you warm on cold cold nights.

You should be able to get light weight everything for camping. Argos do a range too. The OH and myself managed to get a tent, sleeping bags, and enough clothes for a weeks trip to the Isle Of Wight on a custom bike. A friend of ours used their common sense and sent all their belongings by post the previous week direct to the camp site they were stopping at. If not tell your GF that you have had to compromise and will have to share your sleeping bag!

We're off camping at the Silverstone Classic in the Elise in July. I'm more concerned by where I'm going to fit my beer and meat for the obligatory barbecue!

Terra Nova Laser competition, which is the smallest 2 man tent you can get - although you'd have more room just kipping in the car!
The bag of choice would be the PHD minim ultra bags ( http://www.phdesigns.co.uk/).

Failing that there is a glut of stuff here: http://www.hike-lite.co.uk/

Sounds great - a 2 man tent that is basically a 1 man tent! biggrin
