The AA have quoted me just over £60 for breakdown cover in France - for one week!

Is this the usual kind of level of cost? Given annual UK cover is less than £100 it seems extortionate. I presume the fact that the car is a 10 year old S1 makes a difference?

Thanks,
Brad

I used the eurotunnel insurance and when things went wrong yesterday, they have organised the car to be brought back to the UK and sorted TGV from Dijon to Paris and Eurostar back to UK for two of us. I am sure I would be facing a bill of £1.5K otherwise.

I use ADAC for European cover as they will retrieve you from the ring without charging. I think it's about £70 for annual individual cover on any car and an extra £20 for Mrs Birdthom. That's full European and UK cover.

Their staff are brilliant and if you ring you can be put through to an English speaker straight away with no hassle. They are the most polite and helpful breakdown service I have ever dealt with.

I went with Tesco/Green Flag as they had a big discount last year just before I left....it won't be more than £20 or so for a week, I would have thought.

I then did suffer major red clutch hose syndrome and was stuck in an autobahn restplace.....brilliant service then, as the Germans went into gear and even took the car an extra 100km or so to Hamburg, so it could be looked at by a Lotus dealer. They locked it away in a secure garage overnight, too.

Very good service from Tesco/Green Flag, mind blowing effiencency from the Germans, perhaps as you'd expect!

Saved my holiday.
