Sport 160 replaced with RS6 Avant
Discussion
Well I sold the elise a week ago and carried on to drive my vectra estate (the second car). Anyway to cut a long story short, I wanted something more spicy to drive so the vectra is up for sale and I have replaced the 2 cars with a Audi RS6 Avant which only cost me £750 more than what I sold the elise for! (Now thats value for money when you look at it standing in your driveway!).
My god its amazing!!!!! So much power, torque and speed and comfort. Its glued to the road too due to having fully adjustable KW coilovers and a decent geo, so actually feels very nimble even after the elise and very not like a big estate car. I now know why people rate them so highly. Where my elise is twitchy on the road due to track setup, the RS6 monsters everything. I was close to getting an Exige S but wanted a more useable car. It ticks all the boxes for me and can see a long relationship if I can afford to keep putting fuel in lol. Its worth it though. Just as many smiles as I got from the elise, just different smiles. I dont think I will ever bore of the sheer speed of the thing, after 60mph upwards, its like the star ship enterprise lol...
I may look to build a cheap track car in the future to cover the track itch. Mind you, might track the RS6 a couple of times to see how it fairs. I think it would do very well.

My cousin has one of these. He's not short of cash (fx trader) but the running costs are causing him grief... he was considering the latest model RS6 but the sheer cost of maintenance is making him think twice.
And he still won't take me on in a rolling drag race against my cheap-n-nasty 'Rover 75'....

ps - The best car combo Ive owned : a 300bhp Elise + 500bhp RS6 - a car for every occasion, which I shall have again one day
I did over 30K miles in my RS6 avant in 18 months ...I soon found out it costs more to run than an Aston, so I got one of those instead
stay away from main dealers - their eyes light up if you go in for a service with a '6 ...£1600 for discs and pads every 20K miles is about right (!) £1000 for tyres every 15K miles, £600 a service every 10K miles ...at least you dont have the DRC shocks to worry about. Best option for discs n pads - ebay, get genuined Audi parts off there for £800 and then a local indie to fit for £100
get it remapped - mild remap is about 500/500lbft www.mrctuning.co.uk are highly recommended - they did my old S4
www.rs246.com is the place for advice - theres a guy on there that does AV upgrades for them - £1500 ish for latest spec MMI satnav, telly, BT phone, media player etc - highly recommended as the RS6 still has a 3 or 4 generation old Nav unit and is pretty basic
my old car:

I loved my RS6 - me and the GF both want another, just waiting for the 5.2s to get down to reasonable money and will have to have one again as a daily driver...you cant beat them on a wet twisty road, I timed mine on the Racelogic box, doing a 0-60 in 4.5secs .....with 2" of water running along the road...the traction control didnt even kick in ....amazingingly practical cars
Went to lemans in it back in 2006 as the support vehicle ....it was the fastest car down there, even fully laden, nearly saw the double-ton on the speedo ...got there, emptied it out, then 6 of us got in it to watch the footie on the built in telly with the aircon on as it was scorching outside LOL
have fun

yeah, they are a bit toooo easy to drive - just press n go, and hang on....very uneventful ...sound nice though
I wouldnt dream of taking it near a track unless I had a £2-3K pot of cash for a consumable refresh afterwards ...I know guys that have warped a brand new full set of discs in 15minutes, and literally worn a set of tyres so they fell apart before they made it home
nearly 2 ton of estate on a track is not the best idea LOL

yeah when I said it might have a go on a track, I meant a couple of laps. I would not track it, too heavy and like you say, it will eat the tyres and brakes. I did my homework so got a very good example.
Its got new Pirelli P-zero Rossos on now and I can get them for £180 each fitted, so £720 eavery 15,000 miles is ok for me as thats a year and a half of driving. Already found a speacialist to do the servicing and its had its cam belt done recently so thats a winner. I actually find I drive this slower than my other cars. Think its because its got some much power, and it an Auto. Really enjoying the auto box too which is a very big surprise indeed. Not like any other auto I have been in before, Its like it knows which gear I want to be in all the time.....
I know the costs are higher but its worth it. Just love this car. Cant believe how good it handles. I have to put this down to the coilovers and decent geo, but it just does not feel like a really big car, really weired.....
For summer fun and track time, I think I may build a lotus seven style kit car by Tornado (called a Raptor) with a new RPI 350bhp rover 4.6 V8 on carbs. Can be done quite cheaply and will be ludicriously fast on track. Thats the plan !

sounds like your sorted with the running costs then
its all down to expectations - as long as you are not expecting it to change direction like an Elise, then it is a very capable road car ....certainly faster point to point than just about anything if its remotely damp
Remember, it was nearly a £70K car new - in its day, as luxurious as a 5 series, as fast as 911 Turbo, still with 5 people and their luggage on board...if you only could have one car to do it all, thats what Id have (again))
I know the mags will say an M5 touring is better at 10/10ths ...but I dont drive at 10/10ths, and Id sooner be able to do 9/10ths in the wet whilst the M5 is wondering which way youve gone LOL ...
RS6 estate is the fastest car Autocar have tested on their wet handling circuit ...something like 6 secs faster than the quickest Ferrari

that sums it up. Just spent the whole day in the sun cleaning every inch of it. It looks like a brand new car. There is no slack or rattles on the suspension at all. It feels like new. I have never been in one with the orignal DRC suspension, but on coilovers it handles superbly. Its also very nice to be able to play with the likes of Lambos and Ferrari's which I could have never done in the elise with its 160bhp. Yes a very different car but just as enjoyable as my elise was. (just gives its highs in a different way).
