Just bought a brand spangly new elise s, have tickets for the grand prix, does anyone know if it will be okay on their fields (carparks) or should i leave it at home and use the wifes Fiesta frown

any advice greatly appreciated as would really like to take the elise but not if it would put it at risk of damage due to grounding it out.

I'm sure it would be ok - just drive slowly - I parked mine in a field in Goodwood this morning but if it were me, I think I'd leave my new one at home.

A few years ago when it rained heavily ('99 I think) the conditions were awful in the car parks and everyone had to get towed out. (Check you have the towing attachment!)

Hi there,

I bought an 05 111R recently and went to donnington for the BTCC in May and camped on one of their sites.

I found it fine no real issues. There was one bit where you had to drive over a gravel track but as long as you keep the speed down for that bit it was fine.

Having said this, clearly F1 is going to draw a greater crowd though, you would have thought that this would mean the racetrack would be ready for this?

If you go I'd probably suggest going up a day or two early and getting yourself set up and sorted so you don't have to spend ages driving around finding a space / pitch.

Good luck + welcome to the club and congratulations on your new car.

Kind Regards

Tom.

Hi,

Are you just going up for race day or are you camping? Either way you should be fine as some of the carparks are of a proper tarmac surface and the fields that they use for parking are generally pretty flat and not too rutted or bumpy as to cause the car to ground out anywhere, though it'd still pay to be a bit wary of the front number plate. The campsites by the circuit can be a bit worse but I've seen plenty of exotica parked about so again you'll be fine.

Bottom line is that I might be going up on either the Friday or both the Friday and Saturday and will be camping and taking my Elise! Enjoy the race, this will be the first time in a few years that I won't be there myself on race day!

hi sorry about lack of reply as on nights so been asleep most of the day!. thanks for the advice, i am only going for the saturday. main concern is that i always seem to end up in the same grassy car park just behind the start finish stands which have always made me have to go slow in the cupra. I suppos i know the answer which is just take Fiesta and i wont have to worry just really fancied showing off the new car (three tone baby)!!!

Hi mate,

I'm going down and I'm definitely taking the Elise. I've not been to Silverstone before, but I'd be surprised if it's any worse than some of the campsites I have successfully negotiated. Go on, it'll be fine - if you take the Fiesta, you'll arrive to find a car park flatter than a Spice Girl's singing, and be kicking yourself the whole day.

Cheers,

Nick
