Well its not Lotus is it, or have I missed something? Its a group who have bought the rights to the name hence the need for 'team' Lotus.

On that basis I'd say its a bad thing, but I dont really care either way, F1 is just an irrelevant circus. I guess Lotus may get some refected glory if the car is ok.

Presumably both Lotus and Toyota will have some inputs, albeit somewhat limited. Toyota presumably from the existing team, and Lotus more as a marketing ploy. Given the link-ups between the two companies it's not surprising, even if it is a little cynical. That said, I'm pretty sure that there's enough technical expertise in various areas at Hethel, should they want to tap into it.

Dunno. Like Twit, I've seen Formula 1 as an irrelevant circus for a number of years (since the Lotus 88 was banned, in fact) but it can't do any harm to Group Lotus to have 'Team Lotus' back in the fray, in terms of reflected glory.

And let's not forget that the racing effort, in the form of Team Lotus and Lotus Components, had been divorced from the main road car manufacturing and engineering company for a very long time (even before the glory days of the '60's and 70's), albeit under the umbrella of Colin Chapman's control.

If anyone is daft enough to think that any Formula 1 team has any real link or influence on road cars, more fool them, but if even a small percentage of the glamour that Ferrari has derived from their Formula 1 effort could be reflected onto Lotus as a company, then it's got to be a good thing.

The team is run by two Ex Lotus F1 Engineers, and Chief designer is Norfolk born Gascoyne, the team itself is also to be based in Norfolk, and heavily involved Ex Lotus driver (and all round nice bloke) Johnny Herbet. The team is also currently in discussions with lotus/proton about getting them involved also.

I am excited for them, and wish them the best as long as they stick firmly to the Lotus philosophys.

Lotus has nothing to do with this venture. Probably won't at any time in the future either.

I can't believe how glum you all are, this is great exciting news but then I would say that being an F1 nut. It can only be a good thing to see the ‘Lotus’ name on the F1 starting grid again, who knows they might even win, look at Brawn, Jenson didn’t even think he would be in it, let alone win races this year (although they still have Honda in the door)
Let’s see what Lotus do first and then see how many fans they have if they start winning.

Good luck 'Team'? Lotus
