A comment on SELOC, stuck in my mind: A Caterham is a toy, an Elise is a real car.

Do many people keep Elises as 2nd cars or are they mostly daily drivers?

Mine was a daily car until I moved in with my GF now its one of two cars and off to make way for a 7 seater. Its great fun and have no issues having driven it for a year and a half as an only car... even mundane trips are fun in the Elise biggrin

Buying girlfriend's 15 yr old Clio next month as I'm working out on site full-time. Decided a building site was no place for my beloved. Have done 6,000 amazing miles in mine in the first 4 months of ownership. Enjoyed every second.

I was there in my S1 with Subaquas Exige S1, a few BMs and a lovely orange Mini, the Elise did a great job, took all the packing and just swallowed up the miles.

It was an amazing weekend indeed!

Ahh I missed it this year, might try again next year. Went two years ago and found too many non car lovers for my liking, hopefully these will increasingly put off as still good fun for true petrolheads!

Good to hear it was good and you timed the weather well !

It's quite interesting that nobody seems to have one purely as a toy, I assumed many would be 2nd or 3rd cars.

I do 18000 miles a year before you count my driving for fun (about 7000 per year) so 25000 miles per year in the elise would be too much. I like the way it feels special when I get back into it after a while away.

Mine's just a track slag these days - couldn't think of anything worse than having to clamber in and out of it everday, although harnesses only doesn't exactly help. It even stayed at home in the garage last weekend whilst i went to le mans eek

The elise is my primary car while my '72 Alfa lives in a garage nearby. I haven't been able to decide which one counts as the 'practical' car...

We have two cars for two of us, so I use the Elise to commute but I do have access to a hatchback if I need to carry anything big. I guess I drive the Elise about 95% of the time.

We took the Ports to Le Harve ferry, roads down are just something else!
Just thinking how cool it would be if we could hook up with like minded Lotus drivers for LM10? I know its only been over for 4 days, but nothing like strarting to plan early!

The Elise is a toy - we've just bought a £700 Impreza Sport estate for all of the practical transporting of people and goods, rendering the RX-8's practicality unnecessary, so I've chopped the RX-8 in and bought a 111R. And very nice it is too.

Doing this has focused my perception of how much more I spend on motoring than is strictly necessary for A-B transport - basically, the Elise is entirely unnecessary (we also have an MX-5, which is a superior form of transport, but an inferior toy).

So nice to keep as a Toy tho!

The saving in fuel from the RX-8 is probably the same as a 111R over 10 years lol !

The Elise's fuel gauge appears to be broken - I can't see it moving? hehe
