Camber MILES out
Discussion
Went in to have new tyres for the MOT today and was bit gutted when they said they have to get it on the ramps and check alignment as it was chewing the inside of the tyre.. gave me the read out and its absolutely miles out, they used all theyre crimps they had and having to go back in end of next week for the second installment once they ordered in more crimps! Surely this isnt normal! ive only had the car about 8 months havent even tracked it!

you know they dont come spot on from the factory ...the supplying dealer should do a geo check as PDI if they are bothered ..and it should be checked at least yearly
it only takes a knock on a kerb or a big pot hole and it could go out
best get it sorted before you eat through tyres....

To be honest something you have to factor into the Elise running cost, as most people will tell you, probably need to factor in a Geo with a Lotus specialist about every 12-24 months / Or every 10K miles etc depending on use etc
(IMO the Lotus Specialists are the only one's that will know setting's that will suit the car, a good specialist like Plans motorsport with ask you for the kind of set up you require too)

mental isnt it! There sorting it all out for me, ive used them before and usually quite good.. just more unexpected cost!! YAWN!!
That looks like a "protyre geo". To be honest, I am not sure I would trust them to do my geo. Obviously it wont be as bad as what you have currently. For better got to sportmotive or the best go to Plans.
If in doubt what a good geo feels like, I will take you for a spin.

its amazing the no of threads you see exclaiming "wow, just had my car geo'd and it handles amazing now"
what it really means, is that youve been driving a poorly set-up Elise all along, and now its been put back to how it should have been from the start
theres nothing magical or mysterious, its a set of parameters that work best for a particular car/driving style/set-up and a good specialist with experience will know what you *may* prefer
other than that you will just get factory, off the spec sheet settings, which are more than fine for most people in a standard car for road use
when youve tried a few cars over the years with different set-ups you will find one you prefer ..then its easy once you have your "own" settings you like, for your car and style, you can just get it checked once a year or so when you have it serviced
Oh - its not just Elises - all performance sportscars benefit from this, its just that the Elise seems to show it up more...particularly with owners using them on track ....lots of other "supercar" owners are of course just poncing about down the shops for 3000 miles a year and would never tell the difference
LOL

I assume its the right rear tyre thats been chewed up. Nothing adding a camber shim or two won't sort - I'd ask to get it around the same as the left rear. Your left front could do with some camber too (I'd have more on both fronts but that suits me). Rear toe also needs looking at.
I think I have some camber shims rolling around the bat cave - dont need them...Gooby said:
