Hello

I cleaned my 111r yesterday and took it out for a quick blast down the A3 to dry it off. As this is the first time I have driven it with the roof on for weeks, I noticed that there was not much air coming through the internal vents and switching the fan up has no effect. I did notice a couple of months ago that there was the occasional smell of burning when the fan was on but following the ostrich approach to maintenance ignored it and hoped it would go away.

So - any ideas on what the fault is - might be just a fuse but I doubt it (?) due to the burning smell (will check) - and more importantly where to get it fixed? bell and Colvill serviced the car back in April and have no problems going back there but I am just as open about going to an indy if a good one could be reccomended. I am in Godalming, just south of Guildford.

Thanks very much.

I personally use B&C but that's mainly as they are just down the road from me - however i have heard quite a few good things about Lakeside Engineering - www.lakesideengineering.com - near Woking from other users on here & Seloc smile

David Batty at the Garage in Compton does Lotus and TVR and is very close to you. He doesn't advertise directly although you will find mention of him on these forums. Tel is 01483811995

With out a doubt the resistor pack has failed. Try a search for that and you'll read about numerous cases, including mine. Try and shame Lotus into a part payment for the fix as it's a known problem.

All,

thank you very much for the helpful responses.

Any ideas on the cost for this if it is the resistor pack? As I am not desperate to have it fixed immediately I will try contacting Lotus and see if there is any joy - has anyone had any success doing this?

With 6,000 miles over the last year since I bought it this is the first thing that has gone wrong and, as my other car is an Alfa Romeo which regularly presents me with wallet-lightening opportunities, it's a small inconvenience to pay for all the fun.

thanks again.

Guessing you have a/c which I believe needs to be degassed to allow access to the fan assembly. Try on SELOC as there are people who have had it done ther, but ballpark is about £500 as the clam comes off too.

Depending on age, and what has failed, there is a chance you'll be able to claim this as a warranty/recall item. Lotus do cough up for *some*. May be worth chatting to one of the specialists above and seek their advice, or go have a chat to B&C. If you have to pay yourself, then go to a specialist.

Good call. In my experience, it's worth talking to your local dealer even if the car's out of warranty wink
