Elise S - ABS Software
Discussion
I'm running a 57 plate Elise S, the first car I've had with ABS.
I can't help thinking that the ABS software leaves a lot to be desired. My main gripe is that the initial point at which it kicks in is fine, but if I back off and then reapply the breaks (cadence style) it kicks in early, and feels as if it's robbing grip.
The feeling it gives is that once ABS has kicked in, retardation is minimal.
Of course, the seat of my pants is likely telling porkies, but I do wonder. Any one else get the same feeling ?

Changing pads might help a bit but I find the biggest issue being semi-slicks on greasy/gravel/crap covered country lanes makes the fronts very easy to lock up in the wet. Recently changed to new 888s which has helped but even at low speeds on broken surfaces the ABS has a field day as you say once activated brakeing does seem to diminish rapidly.
It's not the pads. It's just the ABS. It's crap. Apparently all cars are like it though - except because of the hard suspension on the Lotus you will notice it happen more often when trying to brake on rough ground.
Have a look on Lotustalk.com... the yanks call it "ice mode" if you want to search for it...

Had this yesterday at Llandow at the end of the straight where the track undulates quite a bit. Fronts lock, ABS kicks in, I lose braking and I'm not quick enough to reduce pedal pressure and reapply (maybe 5-10m at 60 mph), I get round the first corner but I'm then carrying too much speed into the second bend and end up doing a very low speed 180 onto the grass. At least I wasn't the only one
I really need to practice. A lot
