I'd buy one ready done, save a fortune and a lot of work. They do come up occassionally.

Are you talking about fabricating the parts yourself, or buying a kit to do it?

im really looking for some more info about my options.

where can i get the kit from and costs?

what parts need to be fabricated / modified?

im thinking of getting a s\h engine and rebuilding to a new spec prob with omex management etc.

if its just engine mounts and boost hoses i dont see a big problem but im not sure what els is involved?

its a bit more complex than that, otherwise Bernard (the guy that did the first one) wouldnt have spent a couple of years refining things

still cant see it being cheaper DIY than buying a car with one in

theres a couple of places that do them, dunno if they will sell you a kit though, even so, say the kit of bits inc ECU is £3K ish, then a good engine is £1500, and you can buy a ready done car, with a load of other (expensive) mods that you need worth thousands...for about £15K....if you wait for one to come up, as they are pretty rare still.....

this is Bernard who developed it: http://www.auto-teknix.co.uk/

Steve G does the kits too: http://www.guglielmimotorsport.co.uk/

Do you want the finished article, or is part of the appeal the build process?

If it's just the finished article i.e. you want a crazy fast Elise, then everyone here is right, buy one already done.

If you want a project and you enjoy doing it yourself, then go for it. It also gives you the ability to fine-tune every component to your personal requirements. I'd definitely pay for advice or the full kit from Bernard so you avoid any of the potential gotchas that end up chucking money away. One of the Pro-Alloy guys has a pretty serious Audi'd S1 as well, with insane power, so may be worth speaking to him too.

If you decide to do it yourself, then please do a photo diary!!! It'd give people like me who can't do such a project (no garage, not enough time, etc.) some vicarious pleasure seeing the creation of a monster. A bit like George from NZ's immaculate Exige rebuild - great to see.
