For those that haven't seen this in 'the other place'.
Firstly many thanks to those that expressed an interest in the car (I have been genuinely flattered at the serious interest) and especially to the chap that made a very serious offer without even seeing the car.
Obviously the car is now staying put at Tipper Towers
Mrs T and I spent most of yesterday having a brainstorming session and I was also given some advice from a man I greatly respect: we've realised the solution I was looking for is on my doorstep and I can still get my business started.
Mrs T also spent a lot of time over the past couple of days making me realise that I needed the car for that part of my life labelled 'Me' - she deserves a very big hug for making me realise that and getting me to start thinking 'out of the box'
Bring on summer

Don't know the full story here, but on the assumption that finances aren't infinite and you have to make a sacrifice for some reason or other, with the silly plastic sportscar being the 'obvious' thing to liquidate - and that your wife has backed you up by agreeing that the pleasure of owning the Lotus is worth more than the plain financial value - I say HIP HIP HURRAAAAAAH! Good on her, that's an example of true caring love IMO.

Being a petrolhead is a deep personality trait, and the value of a car you love goes way beyond its market value. More importantly, the mental health effects of having to get rid of something that means much more to you than the cash equivalent has to be factored into the equation.

Fortunately my girlfriend realises the same thing, and when we decided to start trying to start a family a few years back (long sad story...) she actively helped in finding a 'sensible family car' by setting the criteria at 4 doors, decent boot, reasonable cost.... with essential extras being 'RWD manual gearbox with fun handling and no non-switchable nannies' and 'biggest, best sounding engine you can find'. Hence the Growler. (The Monaro would also have fitted the bill but I could only find 3-door models and they're expensive).

We have also agreed that if/when (hopefully when) we finally have a kid, its first journey in a car will either be to the sound of the V8 Growl, or strapped into my Exige. biggrin I'm desperately hoping things work out, and if they do, I'll have a video of my newborn getting into its first car - a supercharged Lotus smile Great way to start eh?

st, I'm sounding all coochy coo. Apologies everyone...

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get a small business venture going and don't want to start in debt - fortunately Mrs T (and her Dad) helped me to realise I didn't need as much as I thought if I re-thought a couple of things.
Interesting comments you make cyberface - Mrs T felt I put so much into my family time that I needed to have quality time to myself. She also knows how much that silly little car means to me.
I should be well past the honeymoon stage with the Elise by now but still fall in love with her every time I drive her. Best of luck on the baby front - wonderful things, kids. They changed me so much for the better (and they love Daddy's 'racing' car).

Good news, yesterday I watched the jim Clark documentary and went out for a run in glorious weather, fantastic, it'd be a difficult decision to give it up and I can understand the 'wooooohooooo'!

Glad it's worked out chap, I know how much that car and the family Tip mean to you. Best result all round. All the best with the new venture too... faint heart and all that!
