Hi,
Saw something today that made it realistic for me to buy an Elise!
As I was pulling into a petrol station I saw a big guy (over 6ft maybe 15/16 stone) walk over to a mk. 2 Elise and get in with no difficultly!
The hard roof was hinged in the middle and opened probably 60-70 degrees allowing easy ingress.
Does anyone know who makes this hinged hard roof and whether its watertight and mega expensive?
Many thanks
Keith

Not sure if they are being made any more but they are rare as hen's teeth.

S2 elises are easy to get into...much easier than an S1 Elise/S1 exige and I own one of each atm. I'm 6ft and 16 stone - stop making excuses and get out and try one (

I think you can still get one made to order, the panels lift out and go in the boot, they were about £1500 ish, but never caught on, most people prefer the convenience of the soft top I guess

That's exactly it!
Looks cool and is functional.
Are they really £1500?

From what I've read, they weren't cheap but the biggest problem, and the reason they weren't very popular, was that it was very hard to persuade them not to leak around the T-bar seals.

I think the company that made them has stopped now.

If you're going to have a (short roof) soft top anyway, it's just as good because you can simply unclip one end and roll it back to get in, then roll it back over your head again. Getting in and out really isn't hard once you get the knack though.

The above is what I do MSG days as I'm a lardy 100kgs heffalump. Can still get n a nd out wth the roof on but to roll the roof over halfway and then roll back takes less than 10 seconds extra. Also when inside there is plenty of space. Go on try one for size smile

what stops the water (if it has rained) from being poured into the car when you open the roof like that?

Assuming your in the car sharp right followed by sharp left should do the trick!!

There is a gutter running around the internal three edges (T Bar & front & rear shuts), that carry the water away.

Mine has never leaked, apart from a small drip on the front edge on the drivers side, where it meets the side window. Nearly all Elises leak there anyway.

I think it's a great system, with the benefit that not only is it easier to get in and out the car when in my narrow garage, but you have the benefit of a hardtop, that then fits in the boot in 30 seconds!

Not a bad price considering! To be honest I'd personally go with the short tail soft top, which is really easy to get into anyway, but you can quickly unclip it and roll it back for easy entry/exit smile

Shame that's a long-tail or I might be tempted.

Would've been perfect for your car, already painted n' all! It's a nice idea, in that you can store the hard top in pieces ... I'm trying to find a home in my place for the one-piece hardtop and it's proving difficult. I might use it as some sort of automotive table until winter hehe

It came off a short-tail, surely? It replaces the original rear window shroud, which is why it looks like a long-tail hard-top. Does that mean that it could fit either a short- or long-tail though?
Perhaps you should still be tempted...

If your getting in to drive it, why do you need the roof on?

Yeah but then I'd have to arse about with the roll bar cover if I wanted to fit my soft top. Is it easy to get on and off?
