Right, so its been a week of wonderful S2 ownership. She's everything I thought it would be and more I'm properly chuffed!

However I have some quick S2/car specific questions which haven't been covered in my previous S1 ownership -

1. My nose badge is faded, I can get a new one but how do I remove the present one. I understand some were bolted through the clam (no hope of me getting that off) where as some where stuck on. So which does a 2002 S2 have?

2. Bridgestone tyres at first impression seem a bit shandy, a roundabout at 3/4 burger run speed saw the rear slip a little, something the Toyos never did. W@nk driving or w@nk tyres?

3. EBC discs love rust, three days standing and its starting to go again. Any suggestions?

4. Black was a bad choice in terms of cleaning! She's dirtier than a Bournemouth Uni girl after two breezers already. My car washing regime at present is limited to wash with stuff, rinse, polish with Autoglym resin. Is there a product/action that will help the blackness stay black?

5. How do I stop Mrs49 driving it so much?

6. S2's are better than S1's............sorry, sorry, sorry. wink

Thanks all

>defo stuck on, hand have a couple of locating bits, so just use a credit card or suchlike to prise it off...maybe some isopropynol cleaner sprayed on it/under to help loosen the glue

2. Bridgestone tyres at first impression seem a bit shandy, a roundabout at 3/4 burger run speed saw the rear slip a little, something the Toyos never did. W@nk driving or w@nk tyres?

>>hard to comment - too many variables, although if the tyres have been on a long time (like a couple of years) then Id replace them as they should be as good as /bit better than Toyos im my experience

3. EBC discs love rust, three days standing and its starting to go again. Any suggestions?

>>other than replace with ally bells, not much you can do ..some have painted the centres with smoothrite Ive seen, seems to last a while, but when it starts to flake off can look worse than rust alone ...so ally bells is the way to go

>>I always have black cars, and the last 2 I have had them detailed and coated at www.getechniq.com - works well at stopping mud from sticking and has lasted 2.5 years so far, so a quick wash has it looking like new again

5. How do I stop Mrs49 driving it so much?

>>get her to buy her own, then go on runs together smile

Get the Yokahama AD07's - Upgraded after 2006 and the best tyre IMO!

Invest in some good detailing products and you cannot go wrong, I have starlight black and best products for value etc are Dodo and there supernatural wax is excellent.

Washing - Zymol car wash / Dodo supernatural washing stuff
Sonus Green clay - Claying stage
Pre wax - dodo lime prime, I use Zymol HD Cleanse but its hard to get off!
Wax - Dodo Supernatural or cheaper way is Mag NXT 2.0
Get some decent wash mits and microfibre cloths too!

Hope that helps

5. How do I stop Mrs49 driving it so much?

She is not insured, they said she cannot drive!!!!

6. S2's are better than S1's............sorry, sorry, sorry. wink

Badge is easily removed with dental floss,
Get a good length of floss hold it taught slide under edge of badge and use "sawing action".

definately AD07's mate soon as you can.

get a front splitter from tiga off seloc too.. looks awesome & really does work!

as others have said get some good cleaning products & it will really help... you have to put the hard work in first time round to get it cleaned back (clayed ideally) then seal it, seal it, seal it with some good quality wax (poorboys or dodo are good for black)

if you keep it in a garage get a cover, keep an eye on ebay for 2nd hand

oh... and get it on track too smile

Check out this Link has a full list of techniques http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Basically if you clay your car (with lube) the clay is abbrasive and picks up all the bad stuff from the paint, makes the paint smooth and silky, and really makes the next stages much easier to carry out.

Takes a bit of getting used to but with the right product and some practice your love it!

I'll second Stu's advice on the clay bar and waxing - I took his advise on the thread that he mentions above and the bodywork comes up superb (Thank's Stu!!). So silky smooth, takes a little time and effort but well worth it.

Chris, Bridgestone tyres are RUBBISH. They are rubbish on any car but especially the 'liz. Get some AD07's and a decent geo. That will put the smile back on yer face.

A agree they are probably not as good as AD07's but there ok on my 1 series - good fun in the wet!

But there not rubbish, just that the AD07's are rather good !

Gooby, you were recommending T1-Rs for an Elise in a previous thread so you have no credibility on Elise tyre advice imho laugh

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... S2 sized tyres for all year round road use?&mid=15912

Bridgestone RE040s are great tyres - they're aging a bit now and AD07s are better except in cold or cold/wet conditions, and the 'Yokos have a worse ride, but the Bridgestones still suit the Elise pretty well.

I wasnt recomending T1-R's at all. I have some and they are great for doing a shed load of commuter miles (as necessary at the time).
The comparison from the potenza's to the Advans is night and day. The Advans have better dry grip and the bridgestones are better in the wet but which nut bag is pushing the car that far in the wet. Compared to the bridgestones, the T1-R's are better in the dry and better in the wet and last longer. The bridgestones were rubbish on my 'R, and they were rubbish on my Honda. The bridgestones are useable with a normal geo but change that to a decent (agressive) geo and they are total rubbish.
Chris, in BoLOCs style, go out and double twinpipe all the roundabouts you can find until you can safely throw them away with no guilt. Put on some AD07's and get back to twinpiping!
