quick question though, which s1's are better in terms of problems i.e head gaskets, is there an age i need to avoid or model, i had an r plate elise b4 and didnt have any probs,
there is a 160 sport for sale on here which is temping, im doing 12k a year but i dnt mind a rough ride.

111S was probably the best of the bunch, they seem to have less head issues than the others, and much nicer engine to drive than the 160 lumpy one.quick question though, which s1's are better in terms of problems i.e head gaskets, is there an age i need to avoid or model, i had an r plate elise b4 and didnt have any probs,

In my experience it really doesn't matter about mileage/age etc!
If the car is going to suffer from HGF it will & theres not alot you can do to stop it.
Ok, you can do everything possible to avoid it like drive it sensibly from cold etc but how do you now if the previous owner has done the same. I wouldn't let it be an issue because its fairly cheap to repair anyway.

02/03 models (particularly 135 models) possiby more likely to suffer from head porosity as it sounds like a batch of heads on cars from this year had similar issues.
HGF... it'll either go or it wont. if its already happened and received a good repair, its probably less likely to go again (or not

He's talking about S1's old boy. To the OP, the above is only relevant on the S2 models, particularly the 135R's.HGF... it'll either go or it wont. if its already happened and received a good repair, its probably less likely to go again (or not
