The tinkering continues and this week I'll be tackling the quick shifter.

Now having just about manged to change the nose badge (farkin location pins) how easy is it to do the above job based on no mechanical skills!

Any guidance or problems people have faced?

Would be great to hear from you.

HI Chris. I did it on the S1 and it is quite easy. The most care you have to take is in protecting your knob. wink

Although that said, I'm not sure it made a huge benefit, and in retrospect my original gear change was probably smoother and more rewarding... With hindsight I wouldn't do it again.

Yep it's pretty easy. I would have to disagree on the feel. I drove a std shifitn K the other day and it was like a pudding stirrer! Whilst the Qick Shift started out a little notchy, a few adjustments and I wouldn't go back.

But it's all personal preference realy.

What was the other mod you could do...not the quick shift, but the one that went up the back near the gearbox, I forget what it was called?

that made a HUGE imnprovement and is highly recommended - if i could bloomin remember what it was called smile

Would that be the gear linkage bushes and bracket? This is indeed something most if not all owners talk highly of. Eliseparts has the full kit (aboout £50??) or the bushes can be had for £20 or so via ebay, although I couldn't find a link last I looked.

Yup thats the one - I got the kit from elise parts (you're right, around £50) and it was a fantastic improvement - so much so actually that I never bothered fitting the quickshift kit simply because the change was just right after that.

Highly recommended yes

Both easy jobs Chris, did them both on the S1 and the S2! If you need help just ask.

I'd agree with Tony. The gear linkage was a great improvement. IMO The quickshift (coming from an original shifter that had only done 30k and wasn't a pudding stirrer) is marginal.

You pays YOUR money and YOU take your choice.

Looking good for Friday in all aspects other than wallet!

Yep, done the linkages bushes as well. A bit more of a fiddly job than the quickshift, but definitely worth it over the quickshift.

I think coming from my Griffith I found the Elise throw very long.

But it is all personal preferences.

The quickshift is very easy to fit........the guys I paid at Sinclaires to do it told me so....... hehe

I did it the 'wrong' way round, getting the quickshift before the gear linkage kit. I'd say do both, but do the linkage kit first.

I thought that the quickshift was abysmal. Took it off after 10 weeks or so.

The gearbox is notchy enough without reducing the leverage, felt more like a goods vehicle to me!

Hope you get on better than I did.

Well that was a non starter! The heads of the screws to remove the surround are buggered so can't get a purchase with a screwdriver! Fell at the first hurdle!

the screws that fit the centre console are multipoint or possible euro i believe they call them, i fitted a b&m quick shifter on a 27000 miler and reduced throw by about 1" and much better feel, also got the bushes for the bell linkage on gear box but yet to fitted. a more possitive feel and with the b&m shifter you have the option of 23% or 33% reduced throw and you can set the ofset of the lever to get it away from your knee. i found taking the passenger seat out help a lot as to remove the centre console you have to release the handbrake cable so the lever will go high enough to get the gear lever through the console.

Hey, you drive a Lotus. We don't give up that easily!! Go back and try again.....general rule for most cars DIY is look at the job, estimate a fair time, then double it.

For a Lotus you quadruple the time.thumbup

PS: And don't worry about the little bag of nuts and bolts you have in your hand when finished.....that always happens.....
