Was just washing the car and noticed the offside front tyre had lost a little air. On closer examination, it looks like there is a splinter of wood lodged quite firmly in the rubber.

Tyre in question is Yoko A048. Is this the kind of thing the local kwik fit would be equipped to sort out or should I seek assistance from someone more familiar with Lotus cars?

A tyres a tyre really, surely if its repairable (which it will be by the sounds of it) any general tyre fitter can do it.

Yep, £17.50 will secure a Kwik-Fit repair. Just make sure you hover around (like a expectant father) whilst they're doing the work to make sure your wheel isn't scratched !

Whether it can be fixed will depend on where in the tyre the splinter is. Near the side wall and it would probably need to be a new tyre.

If you fix it I'd not recommend you do track days with it. Get a new one if you use it on track.

Too close to the tyre wall to be repaired apparently. Doesn't seem to be losing air rapidly but, I have lost confidence in it so, am getting it checked thoroughly at the garage tomorrow. A new pair of fronts seems likely which is a shame as there is still a reasonable amount of tread left.

I had a 'unrepairable' tyre too (screw wot done it) so I just unloaded a tin of tyre gunk into both rears (to keep things even) and the tyre stayed good 'til it was down to the canvas. I'd try that first, before blowing £400 on a new pair...
