Discussion
I came across this Opel Speedster H1-V8 and its sounds so amazing that I also share it here, cause its also a bit Lotus.
The sound is amazing, and the car is very fast...turn up the speakers.

well I wouldnt quite go that far as best sounding car, but it certainly looks n sounds tasty
...it would be nice if someone would productionise a small V8 kit for the Elise chassis - Id certainly like one
...only problem is cost right now - cheapest Ive heard of with an RST engine is like £50K for the conversion

And at the minute £50k buys a hell of a lot of car... ...it would be nice if someone would productionise a small V8 kit for the Elise chassis - Id certainly like one

Blimey.
I can hear some serious straight-cut gear whine in there though... that'd really put a dent in driver enjoyment of the V8 sound...
Is it just me, or do any other ex-VXT owners not recognise the car as a VX220 either? If I'd been shown the video without the thread title, I'd have thought it was just an extremely cool special. It doesn't look like a VX220 to me. The back, maybe, a hint of the creased shape. But the rest of it just doesn't register with my VX220-perception neurons (yes, I have cells in my visual cortex that fire up on seeing VX220s *only*... most petrolheads will, too - mad thing, visual perception).

And yes, I'm familiar with the VX220... I owned one for a couple of years, and there's a nice bright yellow one in my profile. That V8 car looks *very* different to me, perhaps I'm just knackered after a bloody hard week and nothing makes sense any more
If I'm right, and the car is *very* loosely based on the Speedster (esp. bodywork being completely different) then the chances of kits to fit V8s to Elises, Exiges or VX220s may be very slim without a widebody rear clam... I agree that the Exige (especially, because I love them) would really benefit from anything *other* than a 4-cylinder engine, just for the mechanical noise
Why is it that the inline four has the least appealing engine note - of virtually any engine configuration? Even special exhausts and superchargers only make it 'adequately sporty'... whereas fives, threes, V6s, straight sixes, VR fives and sixes, flat fours and sixes, and of course big Vs of 8 and above, can sound absolutely awesome with little effort?? None of the big engines will fit in a Lotus and nobody makes a three big and powerful enough for today's porky Lotuses

reminds me of the Caral VX / ELise cars - with a Jag 4.2V8 in the back, the whole rear subframe/clams are replaced
...when you change most of the car, when does it stop being a VX/Elise/Exige and becoming a fancy kit car?

I have several mails from Caral (Simon) about such special car.
they now build them on a Lotus Elise S1 car, no more S2 because it came to much in Lotus water with their on going models.
you can choose the new or used SC Jaquar engine V8 or even better the LS3 chevy new with 430hp standard
and euhm if thats not enough (Simon says its enough
) then you can go up to lets say 1.000hp, or even the lightweight Hartley V8 (is expensive)
Also gearboxes to choose are a Porsche G50 or audi Getrag used or new audi getrag.
pricing is fair, don't know if I can put that down here...but its friendly priced when you see what you get.
the wheelbase increase to 2500mm, 200mm longer than a standard car and ofcorse other body work and new special rear subframe etc etc...I know were my money would go if I had it on the bank

yes, Ive thought about having one built to spec also ....and I know the rough pricing ...its just that at around 1000Kg, with 400bhp there are other cars out therethey now build them on a Lotus Elise S1 car, no more S2 because it came to much in Lotus water with their on going models.

a hot Elise makes most sense to me around 800Kg and 350-400bhp, which is what a good spec Honda/Audi can deliver ..

thats true...a nice GT40 ala superformance with 550hp or a Ultima GTR they also weight around that I believe...a hot Elise makes most sense to me around 800Kg and 350-400bhp, which is what a good spec Honda/Audi can deliver ..
Though the Cheetah car is just 700kg with a big V8 so also 400<>550hp that will be mental

but staying with Lotus models, indeed a Turbo'd SC Honda or Audi Turbo can do the trick too and stay light, though the short wheelbase included, also the fun factor

I'm not an ex-VX owner but it did'nt look much like one to me either. Most similar to an Ultima to my eyes (the flat back end and whopping great big spoiler my well have seen to that!)Gassing Station | Elise/Exige/Europa/340R | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
