I've decided to get a second set of wheels for my winter tyres, rather than keep swapping the tyres on the same set of rims. The winter tyres will last a few winters easily enough so I don't want to damage the bead on the tyres by fitting / removing them more frequently than expected (once!).

I was considering the usual black Team Dynamics wheel as per the set I had on my VX220 turbo, they'd suit the car (yellow, like the VXT) and they aren't that expensive.

Any other wheels I should consider? Ideally I'd like them to be black without having to pay extra for refinishing etc. and just want them delivered to me - I don't have time at the moment to go picking things up due to work commitments.

These are just wheels for the winter tyres - so ultra high performance is not essential, as long as they're around the same weight as the OEM wheel (which isn't that light) and they're not going to corrode to dust immediately. Cost is more of a factor for the 'winter' wheels, so if there's something sensible that's cheaper than the TDs then I'd like to know.

Also, what's the best place to get the TDs (if they are the default option) - ideally I'd like to buy from a place that knows Lotuses as I'm more likely to get the correct offset etc. for the Exige S2. Does anywhere like Elise Parts stock these wheels?

TIA.

Hanger 111 do the Team Dynamics. Not sure if Rotas (five spoke design) are available in Exige S2 sizes - worth checking Elise-shop and Eliseparts. Finally Compomotive MOs?

I think Rota's do make a Slipstream with the correct PCD/offset but contact http://www.rarerims.co.uk/alloys_sub.asp?id=2 don't think they are any cheaper than the TD's at Hangar 111 though smile

Just a thought, but you might want to consider getting some Elise R spec wheels for winter tyres. Sure you'll have thinner fronts, but for winter tyres will that really matter? Possibly cheaper than sourcing a second set of Exige rims.

I'm sure I've seen an Exige running spiders somewhere before...

I've already got the tyres Tim - will they be too wide (195 fronts) for the wheels?

Those Rota 5 and 6 spoke (Grid Drift / GTR Drift, bottom left corner of first page... silly names all called Drift...) wheels look bloody lovely... I'd have those as a 'summer' set for my stickies if they were light enough and bung the winters on my standard Exige wheels.....

Anyone tried this, or know how heavy the Rota 'Drift' wheels are? I'm not too bothered about drifting the Exige, but don't want a wheel that's twice the weight of the standard and buggers up the handling in the summer on A048Rs or 888s...

I suppose it's time to come clean and ask politely if anyone has the exact dimensions I need to make enquiries to these guys about hehe Obviously it's 16x7J front and 17x8J rear (IIRC), but I'm buggered if I know the exact offset or the PCD.... please? wink

ETA - sod that - neither Rota wheel is available in both sizes, arse. headache

biggrin

No problems with offset, etc.?

Good stuff. So, anyone got any Elise R spec wheels for sale? I'd prefer black wheels to go with the existing colour scheme of the car, but at the right price, beggars can't be choosers. Since they're for my winter tyres, silver wheels would go black pretty quickly as I like to drive it all year round smile

Too much damn fun to leave to the summer months AFAIAC. And the winter tyres kill the fear of aquaplaning, which is my biggest fear with the Lotus. Unexpected slides etc. I can handle (in most cases) but aquaplaning is sheer fear. I've had it nearly take me off the motorway a couple of times in the Growler (that's a heavy car, but eats its tyres so doesn't have deep tread for long) and LOTS of times in the Exige in summer downpours so I'm not risking it in winter with greasy roads, leaves, deep water, heavy rain and occasional ice. The snow is a one-off time to show off, it's the rest of the stuff that's the real reason.

If this is all a bit 'nudge nudge wink wink' because Tim has some Elise R wheels to get rid of, then fling me an email as I'm interested. You live just down the road IIRC (last met you at the Woodman pub, but you weren't impressed with me or particularly friendly, probably because the 'Elise' I was driving had funny clams and a Vauxhall badge on it wink half your mates had engine transplants so I didn't feel too bad about the boat anchor Z20LET hehe ) - so no problems there.

Unfortunately not chap, no wheels here or I'd have PM'd you. As for the unfriendlyness, apologies if I seemed that way, certainly didn't intend it. More than likely I was hungover as feck or catching up with old mates who I don't see very often. I'm a contrary bugger at the best of times, but please don't mistake it for being rude!

No worries - I assumed from your posts that you didn't think much of the VXT and that's why you were aloof. It was one extreme to the other with Boggy there who was effusive and really friendly! smile

If you were hungover then I feel sorry for you! The chap in the (assumed supercharged) Honda'd S1 Exige was doing the pax rides for people and if you'd just got out of that with a bit of a hangover then I fully understand - you must have been feeling lousy!

No doubt we'll bump into each other again at some point, I want to go to more meets and get to know the local Lotus crowd. The VXT has sadly gone (it was that car that fully rekindled my love affair with Lotus, which had gotten rocky as hell) but its replacement is better in most respects (still miss that VX engine though).

I'm a friendly chap and don't judge people on first impressions - actually I try not to 'judge' people at all smile so it'll be fun to meet you 'properly' and see your car / hear the stories of the others you've owned. I've only had 3 Elise variants smile

Anyway, if I can use bog standard Toyota Elise wheels and the front 195 winter tyre will fit without trouble, then what sort of price does everyone think is appropriate for a full set in working order (i.e. scratches is OK, square or unbalanceable is not)?? I'm thinking of putting a 'wanted' ad up here or on SELOC...

Good advice though - ought to be the cheapest route and that leaves money for the most expensive upgrade I need - seats with harness holes so I don't fall out of my chair on track - damn those chairs are expensive, even second hand frown
