My S2 111s got through its last MOT after the dealer had to use another cars ECU unit as it appears the comm port on my cars unit is kaput. While the ECU itself is not yet failing a new lotus ECU unit would cost a quoted £400.
I was wondering if I could use this little hicup to my advantage and do a little upgrade with a modded unit, any suggestions?

An ECU like an Emerald will be £1400 including the fitting and mapping. i would suggest you locate another ECU and be done with it. 2nd hand won't cost that much I wouldn't have thought.

I fixed the ECU on my Astra Diesel Van myself!

Prised it open, saw a knackered solder joint, out with the iron and all sorted thumbup

Doubtless not that easy on the Lotus ECU Tinkers, but I was rather chuffed at saving five hundred smooth biggrin

Have you had any issues with the VVC mech on your car? I potentially had a failed ECU in the summer and looked into switching to an Emerald but it's a fair bit more cash for little gain unless your engine's had a bit of tuning.

Ring round some of the conversion places, I bet there's one knocking about somewhere. Either that or someone will probably know someone who can fix it.

I have one knocking about - it is probably a physical defect so we can have a look at butchering one for the other.
