2-eleven ECU upgrade in an exige S
Discussion
It's all about preventing det really - bigger injectors give you more fuel (which can be used to run really rich and cool the intake, as per big-power turbos) and then you need to have some way of cooling the intake air to an acceptable temperature.
The Exige S intercooler is right on top of the engine. It's not in the ideal place. A chargecooler will do better but that's aftermarket and more weight. Pro Alloy do a 'better' intercooler but it's still on top of the engine. A bigger scoop on the roof to direct air into the engine cover doesn't help that much (or the 2-11 would have snorkels etc.)
I'm not sure if any interested hacker (short of Charlie in the States) has bunged remote telemetry in the intake and exhaust to see how hot the intake gets in an Exige S with the standard intercooler, but I doubt it's pretty. As soon as the temp gets high, you need to rack back ignition or dump more fuel to prevent det - reducing power.
I'm sure loads of Exige S owners can testify to the car feeling a lot slower on acceleration after a few laps on circuit in summer, whereas a single winter blast gives more poke than expected...
You could definitely remap the ECU, run a smaller charger pulley and put bigger injectors in, but you'll get the added power until the whole system heat soaks... at which point you either let the ECU dial it back, or blow your engine up.
I reckon Lotus are being very conservative with the 220 Exige S - and I'm not sure if the exact model is sold in the USA, which would explain it. Ambient in summer California would need more conservative settings due to intake air temps you'll never see here. I haven't heard of too many enthusiastic Lotus owners chipping up (or pulleying down) their supercharged Exiges and blowing the engines, not in the UK...

interesting on the lotus upgrade option. i have the AP racing 304mm disks, and one-way nitrons with eibachs.
i will test the waters.
a friend of mine in arizona has a 111R which he has big plans for. apparently crazy power upgrades are almost obligatory there and i don't get the impression he's worried about blowing things up.
i was thinking about the pro-alloy route (warranty expires in february) but at the end of the day it's a lot of money and complication, if i could get part of the way there for a lot less hassle and money, i'd be happy.
the goodies on this website seem cheaper than i expected : http://goth.am/
plenty of time to think about this as it will not be coming before a drivetrain refresh that i'm planning for the spring : diff, uprated clutch, lightweight flywheel, gearbox rebuild.
