Can't get into Exige!

Guys, I need some advice.

My S2 Exige has been left standing in the garage for the last few weeks during the snow. Unfortunately when I went to start it yesterday I was unable to get in!

The key fob won't release the lock-would this be caused by a flat battery? Or is it a problem with the fob (I have tried the spare with the same result). I feel a tad ignorant but its extremely frustrating!

Battery has to be the first shout if its been stood for a few weeks.....

Keep us updated, there are a few stories of batteries suffering in this cold and coupled with a two week break I'd be suprised if thats not your culprit!

As you have identified it is probably the battery. There are a couple of terminals under the front access panel to attach a recharger/ jump leads.

Thanks for your help. The AA chap managed to locate the battery terminals as the previous poster had said...now to get myself a trickle charger..

If anyone is leaving their Lotus dormant for several weeks or more, without a trickle charger, dont lock it using the key fob. Lock the doors with the key manually. If on the flat keep the handbrake off and put it in third gear.

just went through the same hoopla with the Elise after not starting it for nearly 3 months (it was being transported and imported to Australia). Battery 100% dead and not even the red flashing light on the dash was blinking. A quick boost and we could open the car with the fob

Next problem is we cannot turn off the immobiliser. Guys at the shop put in a new battery - said it should work fine as the battery was bigger (hope they haven't fried anything...) Battery in key fob replaced, but still unable to turn off the imobiliser.

Will the PIN code key sequence thing work?

Any advice will be well received

Hi Doggydave - never heard about the leaving it in 3rd gear before - what's the benefit?

3rd gear keeps the car from rolling away but doesn't strain the gear lever-centreing spring by leaving it in reverse/1st/2nd/5th/6th for weeks on end. 3rd better than 4th as lower gears hold the car better than higher ones.
