SOOOOO subjective. "Best" is such a hard thing to define.
For me, it's an S1 Exige every time, but for most the unreliability rule it out. The 340R is a fantastic road car, perhaps the best and in stock form the 2-Eleven is hard to beat on track.
To my mind though if I had to chose a "best" I'd choose an S1 Elise (stock), somewhere around mid 1998. Still got the MMCs, alloy uprights, boot bag etc, but with the lower coolant rail, later cant rails etc.... basically the last of the "Original" spec Elises.
Look after the engine, and you'll be able to drive it hard forever and it'll go like a sundial.
Also because it's the original, it'll be worth something someday, so will be a reasonable longer term prospect.

Okay I will pick one
the elise s. It's practical enough that I can use it everyday
it's slow enough that I need to work hard in the corners to maintain my momentum.
I can take the roof off easily (although never quite worked ot how it fits behind the seats.
It doesn't leak
it feels special
it's three colours
and most importantly it's mine and I love her
i mean it not her she doesn't even have a name(daisy) so how could I know it's a pretty girly!

Use should define it, road going daily then an S2 platform has to win, track an S1, but I'm not keen on the S1 stock engine options. Best Elise I've ever been in was smilers S1 Honda, its what made me totally re assess the Elise platform (I dismissed them as slow before having experienced only K series low power varients).

Have you done this post before? If not I am getting some chronic deja vu and had better catch up on some sleep this weekend....Edited by jackal on Thursday 4th February 21:59
