Care to expand on that? Without bringing the willy waving I have more power than yours argument of course! I found the s to be what lotus is about for me, keeping up your momentum. But then again horses for courses
Sorry but I agree with Gooby here, I found it very hard to live with for track days as they run out of steam at about 80mph - 90mph along the straight's. Not knocking them for the road thouBoggy

Dont want to "willy wave", I love all Lotus products.I had an S for a couple of months. What really frustrated me was exiting a roundabout it would run out of steam and the car would be distabilised because I would bounce of the limiter and have to change gear. What really did it for me was every time I played with a focus RS, I had my arse handed to me.
I am not saying it is a bad car, just after driving and enjoying an R, the S does not cut it.
If you love your S, I can completly understand why but try and beat that feeling of an R coming on cam as you exit a roundabout.
Fast in, FASTER out! YAY!
I do understand your logic and like you say each to their own but I'm never going to take mine on track and to be honest I don't think I'm a good enough driver at the moment to have an r as I would get frustrated in the same way I would if I had an evo in that I would be bringing very little of my ability and would be letting the car make up for my poor driving ie it wouldn't matter that the corner wasn't taken flat as I have the power to make up for it.
Also would just like to say o wasn't accusing you of waving your willy! It's just that I have seen the way these can sometimes go and was trying to keep ot civil and informative, which has been acheived.

I got 'my arse handed to me' by a red Astra VXR coming out of a roundabout last year, and I was in an Exige S, and I'd entered the roundabout 20 miles an hour faster than him. Turned out that he had around 380 bhp. If you're messing about on dual carriageways then today's turbo hatches will eat any nasp Lotus alive... you really need to get on the track to show the Lotus' overwhelming superiority. On the road, unless you're 100% committed (and therefore being dangerous on the public road), big-power hatches and German saloons are frustratingly hard to 'hand their arse to' in a Lotus unless your Lotus is pumped full of steroids....

Yes please, I'll take that one.LOL!
Don't do any of this stuff on public road's, your either going to crash or get nicked plain and simple!
I blew everything away (Elise SC) on track other than Exige's, New M3 and a Porka GT3 (last track day I participated in)
There were a couple of Focus RS and numerous other Hot hatches, they didn't stand a chance

Please dont get me wrong, I am not some max muppet street racer, I dont race but a good play on the right road is always fun.
Personally i find having a 'lower' powered car more fun,you can drive it at 10/10ths more of the time and after doing the suspension really enjoy chasing faster cars on road or track.
As for running out of steam at 90mph well I didnt appear to have much trouble getting to 130mph on the Kemmell straight at Spa
The 1zz seems to free up after a few miles are put on it and at a recent dyno day was found to be putting out nearly 150bhp with the max torque available way lower down the range than a 2zz...
I much prefer the 5 speed box to the 6 speeder too.
Driven pretty much all variants and the only one that i would realistically change my car for would be an n/a Honda'd car.
Horses for courses though as ever

Keeping the R on cam, on the road is a little frustrating. On track the S is definitely underpowered and over-tyred. It is however almost like for like with an original S1 Elise. The R would definitely be desirable as a track car. That's my call anyhow, if you're using it for any track use, get an R, otherwise an S is more fun, more of the time on the road. But, no, in the current scheme of things, the S isn't particularly fast. So what?
