I thought I would just share my experience with you guys.

I found a nice Lotus Elise on the net. I reserved the car fairly quickly as I thought it would sell rapidly. Whilst doing so, I asked about the service history, as the ad. stated a fsh. In fact, the car needed a cambelt as the last time it was done was 2005. They would not move on the price however.

When I went to pick it up, must admit it seemed nice finially buying from a good outfit rather than private. However, whilst driving home, I noticed the tyres needed some air. A surprise to me was finding that the fronts had 15psi in and the rears 17psi.

Having bought the car from where I did, I would have thought they would know how important it is to have the correct pressures in the tyres. I felt they had just got a spong out, and put some tyre dressing on the rubber and then it was already for the forecourt!

The salesman emailed to ask if all was well, I replied just mentioning the above, heard nothing back...

I just expected more. Moan(report)over.

and the Porsche bit is.....? Guessing you bought the Lotus from a Porsche Independent? Any trader can set themselves up as an Indy. So what made you think just because they sold Porkers they'd be a reputable place?

Having just p/ex my Porsche at an Indy for my Exige S and I can claim to have had a very good experience. You can't make a sweeping judgement either positive or negative about Indy's. A traders reputation is born over a longer period and should not be judged by the sticker prices on their forecourt.

Also having been co-habiting on the Porsche forum for the last 12 months, there are some names that come up more often than not. TBH most Porker Indys are unlikely to know one end of a Lotus from another, and most likely took it in p/ex and are just turning it around to see if they can make a few extra £s selling it retail. That was the case with mine and I like to think it worked in my favour hehe

Not being funny, but the Porsche bit... was actually in the title!

They only sold Porsches, except for the odd trade in. I am not naming the outfit.

I have bought more cars than my years!

Perhaps they thought that they could simply scale down required tyre pressures by the difference in weight between the Elise and a 911 hehe

Interestingly enough, there's not a hell of a lot of difference in front-rear weight distribution between an Elise and a 911. And tyres are absolutely critical for good handling on porkers, likewise with Lotuses. Bit weird that tyres weren't checked in the PDI though.

I don't think the OP did anything of the sort but was just moaning about his experience (which sounds crap) without naming and shaming. You would expect a specialist in sports cars (even a different marque) to put some care into the PDI of a car being sold, and then to reply to negative feedback.

Anyway, enjoy the car OP, and post up pictures when you can.

Ok. Well IMHO I think the OP was being naive. From any "pre-owned" car dealer it's going to be "caveat emptor" especially on consumable items (tyres, batteries, exhausts, brake pads etc) where there is never any warranty cover.

But yes, regardless of their claimed specialisim in cars from Stuttgart the OP did not deserve poor post-sales customer service... I just think the Porsche bit is irrelevant that is all.

Funny that, the brake pads are almost shot aswell. Hey, I love the car and knew exactly what I was buying, as I bought it over the phone.

My point being, very nice looking garage, they certainly had some expensive stock, been doing the German make for some years.

If I was them, I would simply reply: 'Sorry we missed the tyre pressure, enjoy the car now'.

I think the German bit is very important in the post. I also wanted it be known, even if you buy from a good garage, you may not get a car that is prepared right.

I had a problem with a purchase buying from a Lotus garage, they took care of their mistake with no hesitation. I have recommended them many times now. But hey, they are the No1 in the UK, they don't really need my help.
