Just had a quote from a Lotus dealer (my local specialist has closed alas) for £965 for major service including cambelt and then a further £35 for a geometry check. This seems way excessive (the service part at least). Is this over the odds even for a Lotus dealer? Every time I look through Evo they quote service prices for far more exotic machinery for far less. OK so the engine isn't that easy to work on, but there isn't much to diagnose/inspect really!

I would certainly get some prices elsewhere. I had a quote from my local garage for a C service; was £800+! didn't have it done.

Bell and Covill quoted me £290 for a cambelt change which I thought was good. Worth asking other Lotus dealers/specialistes to see what it will be even though it is too far away.

I use Rimmerbrothers to get all my Rover parts now and get it done by my friendly garage. An after market water pump cost me £16!

Maybe you could supply all the parts so you just pay the labour.

Last time I had it done (two years ago), I paid just over 400 quid.

it may be their crazy labour rate

most specialists will be £500-600 ...but likely "only" £50+vat an hour or such like

some dealers are £100 + an hour or more

so on a 5-6 hour service that can add another few hundred quid easy

shop around or travel...

I only paid £265 for a 10K service on my Aston the other week...couldnt see myself paying nearly a grand for a Rover K series engine service LOL

I would certainly check with some other garages.

You could do a lot of the less major stuff yourself (change the spark plugs, change the oil, brake pads if needed) and then just get the garage to do the cambelt change and geo check.

That should reduce the price a bit.

My local lotus specialist charge about £500 for a C service (cambelt) (track torque & pure lotus)

Where about's in the west midlands are you.?.
Yes that price is rather steep for a "c" service.(granted it is an 8hr service, As you have 2 cambelts.Standard cars have 1 belt and are 7hrs.).
Does your car need a "c" service.?. Not an A+belts?.

West of birmingham. I should try Paul Matty I guess. Garage that gave me the quote was Stratstone Stourbridge. Its a major service that's needed, so yes, a C. I did an A+belt last time I had the belts done.

I would try Top Gear Automotive or Sports Car Services, both are respected Lotus independents near Birmingham.

Topgear in Wolverhampton do a fixed price service at £450 + VAT for a C service on an Elise 111s (the most expensive one). I use them and they are very good. Recommended
