My 111r has just come out of Leftovers from its annual service (picked it up Friday afternoon) and today has caused me all sorts of issues. The oil warning light came on so I stopped immediately and cheaked the oil level - the dipstick was dry, absolutely no evidence of any oil. I bought 2 litres to top the oil level up to get me home (from Lindsay Rd to lilliput) but the warning light is still on. Moreover the car cut out on Canford Cliffs Rd and having nursed it home, have discovered a trail of oil down the drive. Sure enough its coming from the car. I'm light years from being a competent engineer and am totally clueless on these types of issues. Can anyone have a stab as what is wrong and what I need to do to put it right? Instead of sounding great as usual the car now sounds like a traction engine. Help please!

dare i suggest they have not put the sump plug back in and failed to fill it with oil, hence why you have a trail. eek

See if you top it up now if it just drains out the bottom. I don't want to be a scare mongerer but you could (unintentionally) have done long term damage to your engine. In which case you ideally want them to admit to it and therefore be obligated to you should subsequent engine related failures occur.

I pray it is something less...

Certainly sounds as if the sump plug may not have been tightened, if it was missing I doubt you would have made it home. I could also be the oil filter not tightened.

Take pics of the oil trail, keep the receipts of the oil bought and if you can find the leak, get pics of that as well.

Don't drive it, contact the garage as soon as possible. Get an independent inspection if they argue.

Good luck, I hope they accept responsibility.

Grinnders / Womble,

Thanks for the advice. I hope that the problem isn't too serious but I will be going into the garage first thing on Monday morning.

Presumably NOT by driving the car though?

Actualluy, Leftovers have been pretty good. I spoke to the sales guys this morning and they arranged to transport the car to the garage. The liz went straight in and onto a ramp. It seems that the oil cooler (located nearside front of the car) has been the cause of the problem. The sump was tight, with no evidence of oil leaks near the engine bay. I don't think that the service has had a bearing on the problem - just sh*tty luck and timing on my behalf. The part will take a while to come from Norfolk , so it'll be a while until we can assess whether or not the engine is ok. Will update with any further news.
