Fitted a set of inserts today, what a difference! Not the easiest of jobs, bit fiddly, but well worth the time and effort.

The gear change is definitely improved. Changes from first to reverse and back again when parking seem more accurate and high speed red-line changes are far better. The car doesn't rock back and forth under hard changes and the gear change itself is far more positive. I'd say it's a 50% improvement.

Cornering is significantly more stable. On a tight set of corners the car feels a lot smoother and much tighter overall. The car feels "lighter" with the weight being kept more or less in one spot and not flopping around in the back!

The car also feels more stable under braking. Yet to try it on track but fast road braking it feels much better.

For the money (£40 off eBay) it has to be just about the best upgrade I've done.

Interesting thanks.

Is this a common upgrade?

Don't think it's too common but gaining popularity for track users although i would say it's worth doing for the road as well.

Should add, this is on S2 Exige.

Your initial positive findings sound very enticing though!

Any down sides to it?

I have an S2 Elise.

Thanks

Only downside is a bit more vibration in the cabin on tick over. Above 1000rpm you don;t notice it.

Yep I echo what Tony says, just a bit of vibration at tickover and pulling away, especially when cold. But it makes SO much difference.
We went from our S1 elise with brand new mounts where the engine was solid, to an S2 Exige with standard mounts so it was really highlighted how bad thee standard mounts are. It was like having a lump of jelly in the back - you could really feel the engine wobbling about shaking the car. With the inserts the engine only moves a little, well recommended.

In our case I think the mounts were quite worn so seemed worse than our previous Exige, but understand the reason for having them, which is to make it a bit more civilised! But we don't do civilised biggrin

Poor esprit, he´s only just put his engine back in, and now this.

laugh All in hand (literally) http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0...

Doesn't bear thinking about! Can you just imagine trying to change the mounts on an existing engine without removing it wavey
